Brighten Things Up! in Pokémon Pokopia: How to Complete the Mission

Here’s how to raise Bleak Beach’s brightness enough to wake Mosslax and complete the Brighten Things Up! Important Request in Pokémon Pokopia.

Brighten Things Up! is the name of one of the main story's Important Requests in Pokémon Pokopia, and it's connected to the Bleak Beach area. In this entry of our guide, we'll explain how to complete each step of this mission so you can finish it without any trouble and avoid getting stuck.

How to raise Bleak Beach's brightness and wake Mosslax

To complete the Brighten Things Up! mission after Trubbish asks you to investigate the mysterious noise coming from the cave where Mosslax is sleeping, you need to raise the biome's overall brightness until it reaches 100 points and wakes Mosslax up.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: How to raise the brightness and wake Mosslax

To reach this total brightness score, you'll need to complete a series of small tasks similar to regular Requests. Some of them can be completed in any order, and you may even have finished a few already simply by exploring the area. Either way, make sure you speak to the Pokémon connected to each task after completing it so that it counts toward your progress.

In case you're unsure what to do, these are the tasks you need to complete to raise the area's brightness:

Turn on the Harbor Streetlights around the neighborhood

One of the first steps in the mission is fairly straightforward. Meowth will come up with an idea for bringing some light to the neighborhood: turning on the Harbor Streetlights scattered around the area.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: Turning on the Harbor Streetlights

You can complete this task by having any Electric-type Pokémon with the Generate specialty follow you. Whenever the Pokémon approaches a streetlight, it will turn it on. Simply activate every streetlight you see near Mosslax's cave, then return to Meowth and report back. Flowers will appear on Mosslax's head afterward, indicating that you're making progress.

Create the Resort Meal Prep habitat

Look for Torchic when it has a speech bubble above its head and talk to it to hear another idea. It will suggest creating the Resort Meal Prep habitat.

You can create this habitat by placing any seat beside a palm tree, along with a lit campfire and a plate containing any type of food.

Place Utility Poles to carry electricity from the windmill

After completing the previous steps, you'll hear a strange sound coming from a small island near Mosslax's cave. Head there with the other Pokémon to discover Peakychu, a special version of Pikachu that will help you light up the area from this point onward.

After a few conversations, you can meet Peakychu at a pier on the nearby beach, where you'll find a moving windmill. Peakychu will explain that this type of generator can be used as an unlimited source of electricity.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: Connecting Utility Poles to the windmill

By placing Utility Poles around the area, you can carry the electricity produced by the windmill to different locations and keep streetlights and other powered objects permanently switched on.

Your next task is therefore to place several Utility Poles and connect different points around the area. Look at the ground and you'll notice gray concrete blocks with circles in the middle. These have been placed at just the right distance from one another for you to connect the poles.

Divert water to the waterwheel

After Peakychu appears, Piplup will have another idea. Speak to it and head east from Mosslax's cave to find a waterwheel. If you haven't already done so, you'll need to break a spring block farther uphill to release a stream of water that flows down toward the waterwheel.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: Activating the waterwheel

Once the water starts flowing, the waterwheel will begin turning and generating unlimited electricity. You can now connect several Utility Poles around the surrounding area.

Reach the top of the lighthouse with Trubbish

Trubbish will also have an idea. Speak to it near Mosslax's cave and it will point out the large lighthouse building to the east, above the waterwheel you should already have activated with Piplup.

Take Trubbish to the top of the lighthouse and connect several Utility Poles around the area as you climb. This will allow you to carry the electricity generated by the waterwheel below all the way to the top. There's also a working windmill on the mountain near the lighthouse that you can draw power from. This will let you turn on the spotlights at the top of the lighthouse.

Place burnable items in the Furnace

Torchic will have another idea. Speak to it and it will show you the Furnace, a strange oven-like machine in which you can burn combustible items to generate electricity temporarily.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: Lighting the Furnace

Head to the Furnace with Torchic and interact with the machine. You can place any burnable materials you like inside it, including food, lumber, thick branches, and more. How long the Furnace continues burning will depend on the number and type of resources you add. It will generate electricity for as long as it remains lit.

Add whichever resources you think are appropriate, then make sure you place more Utility Poles nearby to carry the electricity to other parts of the bay, such as the nearby pier or the Pokémon Center plaza.

Light up Mosslax's cave

When you speak to Peakychu inside Mosslax's cave, it will mention that the cave is far too dark. You'll then receive the recipe for crafting a Shell Lamp.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: Placing the Shell Lamp inside Mosslax's cave

Craft the lamp and place it near Mosslax, then make sure you turn it on. You can use Utility Poles to carry electricity into the cave.

Create the Overgrowth Vending Machine habitat for Mareep

Another task you can complete involves Mareep. The Pokémon will tell you that it wants to live in an Overgrowth Vending Machine habitat. By this point, you've probably already spotted some vending machines around the area. They look like this:

For example, there's one near Smearguru. To create the habitat, place four patches of Yellow Tall Grass beside a vending machine and make sure the machine is powered by electricity. Once you've created it, invite Mareep to move in.

Activate the charging station

Finally, after completing everything above, the mission's last step is to supply enough electricity to the strange charging station near Mosslax's cave so Peakychu can use its Illuminate specialty.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: How to activate the mysterious charging station

You'll notice that the station has two connectors or nodes on its sides, as shown in the screenshot above. Place Utility Poles nearby to carry electricity to these connectors. If you've connected the surrounding area correctly and created a complete network of poles throughout the bay, there should be enough electricity to power the station.

The main thing is to make sure that the electricity produced by the windmill, waterwheel, and Furnace is interconnected and reaches the charging station. Having powered Harbor Streetlights connected to the network will also help. You'll see five indicator lights on top of the station. Your goal is to make all five light up at the same time.

Once you've carried enough electricity to the charging station, Peakychu will be able to illuminate the entire bay. Return to Mosslax's cave and, much to everyone's surprise, the Legendary Pokémon Raikou will appear. You can speak to it at the top of the mountain to register it in your Pokédex.

Pokémon Pokopia - Brighten Things Up! mission: Waking Mosslax and meeting Raikou

Raikou's appearance will have cleared the clouds from the sky, meaning the bay will no longer be trapped in perpetual night. Naturally, this will also allow Mosslax to finally wake up from its long slumber.

That's it—mission complete!
