Now that Pokémon Pokopia has been released and its Pokédex is no longer a mystery, we know that the game brings back a total of 300 creatures from previous generations of the series without actually introducing any completely original Pokémon. There are, however, a handful of special Pokémon that can be considered new, even though they are really new forms of familiar faces.
In this entry of our guide, whether you're curious or simply want to learn more about them, we'll show you all the new and special Pokémon debuting in Pokopia, along with their general details and characteristics.
Professor Tangrowth is the first new Pokémon you'll encounter in Pokopia, right after starting the game. This special Tangrowth still carries a number of human tools and has lived alone for a long time in a world that is now desolate. It acts as a mentor, usually serving as an instructor so that Ditto can help bring the environment back to life and find the other missing Pokémon. It can also appraise any Lost Relics you show it.
Professor Tangrowth has a very unusual appearance that sets it apart from ordinary Tangrowth. One of the vines on its head holds what appears to be a TM disc, while beneath its eyes it wears a pair of broken Wise Glasses.
Peakychu is a surprising new form of Pikachu. This female member of the species has a pale, almost ghostly coloration that inspired her name, along with drooping ears and a shiny coat.
You'll first encounter Peakychu in the Bleak Beach area while progressing through this region's main Important Request, "Brighten Things Up!". Thanks to her Illuminate specialty, Peakychu plays a vital role in bringing light back to the beach.
Snorlax has a new form in Pokopia known as Mosslax. Its name comes from the appearance of this enormous, sleepy creature, whose entire body is covered in green moss, with even a flower growing on its head.
You'll first encounter Mosslax in the Bleak Beach area, hidden inside a small cave sealed off by blocks. The main Important Request "Brighten Things Up!" revolves around waking Mosslax up. Once you've managed to do so, you can offer it different kinds of food in exchange for unusual bonuses that remain active for several hours.
Smearguru is a particularly colorful Smeargle. The splashes of paint covering its body reflect its passion for the world of painting, an art it practices using the tip of its tail. With its help, you can customize the items you create and give them your own distinctive style.
You'll first encounter Smearguru in the Bleak Beach area, on a stretch of beach where it has set up an easel and a painting. By talking to it, you can learn about the mechanic for customizing and recoloring your items.
DJ Rotom is a new form of the distinctive Pokémon Rotom, which, as we already know, can inhabit and take on the appearance of different electrical appliances. In this case, Rotom lives inside a mini stereo system, and you can give it any music CDs you collect during the adventure to play different tracks from across the Pokémon series.
You'll first encounter DJ Rotom in the Rocky Ridges area, inside a tunnel whose entrance is covered by a large pile of volcanic ash, just to the right of the area's ruined Pokémon Center.
Chef Dente is a special Greedent who, as the name suggests, is a true culinary expert. This is also reflected in Chef Dente's appearance, as the Pokémon carries all kinds of kitchen utensils, including pans, spoons, and spatulas. You'll first encounter Chef Dente in the Rocky Ridges area, trapped inside a barrel near the Pokémon Center.
Chef Dente can teach you how to prepare food recipes using a variety of ingredients. These dishes can be given to Pokémon to increase their Comfy Level—each creature has its own favorite flavors—or eaten by Ditto to temporarily improve the effects of its special moves.
Tinkmaster is a special Tinkaton who, as her name suggests—and as you might guess from the enormous multipurpose hammer she always carries—is a true construction professional. You'll first encounter Tinkmaster in the Sparkling Skylands area, at the top of a tower made from scrap blocks.
This Tinkaton can lead major construction projects and speed up the amount of time required to complete any building work she takes part in.
