Pokémon Pokopia: How to Find and Get Mew

Here’s how to find Mew in Pokémon Pokopia and successfully register this Mythical Pokémon in your Pokédex.

Mew is one of the Mythical Pokémon featured in Pokémon Pokopia, and it can be registered in the Pokédex in this Switch 2 game. Since it's one of the most special creatures in the game, we've put together this entry in our guide to explain how to get it and show you its basic details.

How to find Mew

Mew is one of the rarest Pokémon to find in Pokémon Pokopia, as you need to complete a very specific task to make it appear in the world. More specifically, you must complete a mysterious mural found inside a cave in the Withered Wasteland by placing Mysterious Slates in their correct positions.

First, we'll explain where to find the cave containing the mural. It's easy to locate. Starting from the Pokémon Center in the Withered Wasteland, head right toward the wall at the far end, where you'll initially find several wall blocks that can be destroyed with Rock Smash:

Breaking these blocks will open up a path, like the one marked in the screenshot above, leading to an open area with trees and streetlights. Be careful, though, because there are more wall blocks immediately to the left that you can break to uncover the entrance to a cave, complete with a staircase leading down, as shown here:

Head down these stairs to reach a cave containing a mural covered in strange symbols. These symbols represent the Unown alphabet and are connected to the method for making Mew appear in your game.

How to get and register Mew

Once you've found the cave containing the mural with the Unown symbols, as explained above, you can begin the process of getting Mew. Basically, you need to place a total of 27 Mysterious Slates on this mural, each in its correct position, to recreate a mosaic shaped like Mew.

In case you don't already know, Mysterious Slates are a type of special item in Pokopia that can only be obtained at random by breaking blocks with golden glows. You never know when you might come across one of these slates, so we recommend breaking every glowing block you find along the way.

As a tip, you can also bring along a Pokémon with the Search specialty and equip the Dowsing Machine to look for treasure. This will increase your chances of finding Mysterious Slates, allowing you to collect them more quickly than usual.

Whenever you find a Mysterious Slate, you can pick it up and add it to your Bag. As mentioned above, there are 27 different slates in total, one for each letter of the Unown alphabet. The good news is that there's only one of each type, so you'll never get duplicates. However, collecting them all will still take quite a while because they appear at random. Be patient.

Whenever you have some Mysterious Slates, return to the mural cave and open your inventory. Hold one of the slates in your hands and adjust its orientation to turn it around. You'll see an Unown symbol or letter on the back. This tells you the correct position for that slate on the mural.

Once you know where each slate belongs, simply place it on the mural, but make sure it's facing the right way, meaning in its default orientation. As you add more and more slates, you'll see them combine to create a mosaic like the one shown below, depicting the silhouette of the Mythical Pokémon Mew:

Finally, once you've found and placed every Mysterious Slate in the game in its correct position, a pink glow will appear in front of the mural. Interact with it to make Mew finally appear. You can then befriend it and register it in your Pokédex. From this point on, you can also invite it to live wherever you like.
