In Pokémon Pokopia, Chef Dente's lessons allow players to prepare different food recipes using a wide variety of ingredients to create delicious dishes. Every Pokémon in the game's Pokédex has its own favorite foods that you can give it. Eating certain dishes can also temporarily increase the power of the special moves Ditto learns during the adventure.

Since cooking plays an important role in Pokopia, we've put together this entry of our guide to show you a complete list of all available food recipes, the ingredient requirements for making them, and their specific effects. If you want to become an expert chef, take a look!

How to unlock Chef Dente and learn to cook

The first step toward unlocking the cooking mechanics in Pokémon Pokopia is to progress far enough through the adventure to rescue Chef Dente. This special Pokémon can be found in the Rocky Ridges, trapped inside a barrel hanging from a chain in a building opposite the Pokémon Center:

At first, even if you try to cut the chain holding the barrel with the Cut move, you won't be able to break it. However, Chef Dente gives you several hints about what to do next. First, you'll need to obtain a Cutting Board and prepare a salad.

To learn the recipe for crafting a Cutting Board, you must first make Dartrix appear in the biome. To do so, you'll need to create the Pointy Tree-Shaded Rocky Tall Grass habitat, which requires placing a boulder beside a pointy tree and four patches of red tall grass.

Once you've befriended Dartrix, you'll be able to craft Cutting Boards at a Workbench. You only need two pieces of Lumber to make one. Afterward, place the Cutting Board somewhere and interact with it. Add two Leaves to prepare a Simple Salad.

Eating the salad temporarily powers up Leafage. While the move is powered up, you can use it on rocky terrain to create moss. Your next objective is to create the Mossy Hot Spring habitat by placing four patches of moss beside hot-spring water. This will make Torkoal appear.

Once you have Torkoal, clear the path between its habitat and the Pokémon Center so that it can teach you the Bread Oven recipe. You can craft one using Stone x2, Small Log x2, and Volcanic Ash x4. After building it, place three Wheat inside to bake bread.

Eating the bread will then increase the power of Cut, allowing you to free Chef Dente from the barrel. After rescuing them, keep talking to Chef Dente to accept additional requests. This will also allow you to unlock the Frying Pan recipe and learn how to make hamburger steaks. From this point onward, you'll have access to the game's cooking and meal-preparation mechanics and can start making the most of them.

All special food recipes

Pokémon Pokopia generally allows you to prepare up to 24 different food recipes divided into four categories: six types of salad, six types of soup, six types of bread, and six types of hamburger steak.

Special food effects

As mentioned above, every food recipe in Pokémon Pokopia has special effects. Besides the different flavors of each dish—which may appeal more or less to the Pokémon you give them to and affect how quickly you increase their Comfy Level—each of the four recipe categories also powers up one of Ditto's moves.

Pokémon Pokopia - Special effects provided by food recipes

The move upgrades are as follows:

  • Salads power up Leafage: you can hold down ZR to create more grass. This also allows you to create moss on rocks and duckweed on water.
  • Soups power up Water Gun: you can hold down ZR to increase the size of the splash.
  • Bread powers up Cut: you can hold down ZR to increase the size of the cut and slice things from a distance. This also allows you to cut through tougher objects, such as metal fences.
  • Hamburger steaks power up Rock Smash and Rollout: you can break blocks more quickly and destroy blocks made from tougher materials, including Gold Ore and Pokémetal Ore.

It goes without saying that these cooked meals also fully restore the PP of their associated moves. You'll be able to enjoy these useful upgrades for as long as the food's effect remains active, which is why we recommend always carrying dishes from every category in your inventory. Food never expires either, so you can use it whenever you need it.
