Two of the materials and secondary resources in Pokémon Pokopia that may cause the most confusion among players are Stardust and Star Pieces. In this entry of our guide, we'll explain how to easily obtain both resources, how to use them, and exactly what they're for throughout the game.
How to get Stardust and what it's used for
Stardust is a resource that can only be obtained in Pokémon Pokopia on the Dream Islands you visit with Drifloon's help. You won't find Stardust anywhere else in the game—only on these islands.
Regardless of which doll you use to travel to a Dream Island, every type of island contains Stardust. You'll find plenty of it scattered across the ground, especially near the shoreline, on beaches, and inside the underground cave located in the center of the island.
Once you've obtained some Stardust, the only thing you can do with this resource is craft Star Pieces. You can use a total of 99 Stardust at a Workbench to craft one Star Piece. You'll unlock the recipe for this item the first time you obtain Stardust.
You'll find the Star Piece recipe under the "Other" category at the Workbench.
Which Pokémon should you give Star Pieces to, and what reward do you get?
By reading the description of Star Pieces, you can learn that this material can be given to a certain Pokémon in exchange for a gift. If you don't know which Pokémon this refers to, we'll let you in on the secret: it's Porygon-Z.
Porygon-Z is the only Pokémon in Pokopia with the Rarify specialty. This means that once you've met Porygon-Z, you can talk to it and select the dialogue option "I need rare materials".
This allows you to give Star Pieces to Porygon-Z and exchange them for rare Pokémetal, one of the most valuable materials in the entire game. You'll receive one piece of rare Pokémetal for each Star Piece, but only after waiting for a while, as Porygon-Z takes real-world time to process the material.
To meet Porygon-Z, you'll need to create the Game Corner Battle Zone habitat. You can establish it by placing two powered-on Arcade Machines next to any two seats in the same area. Arcade Machines can be obtained at random by, for example, appraising Large Lost Relics.
Bear in mind that Star Pieces serve no other purpose in the game, so you can safely use all of them this way. Now you know exactly what they're for!
