At first, you may not even realize that in Pokémon Pokopia you can trade with certain Pokémon and even open special shops where you can exchange items and barter with them to obtain anything you're still missing from your collection. Before you can trade with Pokémon in Pokémon Pokopia, you'll need to meet several conditions and requirements. First and foremost, you must have a Pokémon with the Trade specialty, such as Blastoise, Hitmonlee, Hoothoot, Meowth, Happiny, Zorua, or Eevee.
Only Pokémon with this specialty can exchange items with you through trading, so make sure you befriend a few if you want to use this feature. There are plenty of them available.
The next thing you'll need is a cash register, which Pokémon with the Trade specialty can use. Bear in mind that cash registers must also be connected to a power source to work. Alternatively, you can use a Pokémon with the Generate specialty to power one temporarily.
Bear in mind that every Pokémon Center you rebuild always contains a cash register, and it doesn't require an external power source. This means you can simply have a Pokémon with the Trade specialty follow you inside the Pokémon Center, where it will stand behind the counter and start trading with you. However, when a special event is active, this shop will instead be occupied by the event's temporary items.
You can also create the Working the register habitat or the Nature's market habitat anywhere you like. A Pokémon with the Trade specialty can sell items at either of them. Remember that if you place several counters and put plates on each one, the Pokémon will have more items available for sale.
Finally, another very useful way to trade with Pokémon is to purchase the Poké Mart kit from PC Shops for 500 Life Coins. This kit will become available once you've progressed far enough through the adventure.
As with other buildings, you can construct this kit in any location with enough space by assigning Pokémon to the project, supplying the necessary materials, and waiting for the required amount of time. Once it's finished, place some utility poles nearby to carry electricity inside and power the cash register. A Pokémon with the Trade specialty can then set up shop and sell items to you.
Regardless of which of the methods above you use to trade with Pokémon, the process for buying items from them is always the same. Here's how it works:
If you have a good supply of crops, we recommend offering food items such as Tomatoes, Beans, Wheat, and so on. These are easy to replace and can help you complete trades with other Pokémon. You can also offer terrain blocks, which are very easy to stockpile in huge quantities. Another option is to bring back a Castform weather charm whenever you visit one of Drifloon's Dream Islands, as this is one of the items worth the most points in trades.
Bear in mind that the selection of items sold by Pokémon in shops is random and changes every day. However, by giving Mosslax offerings of sour food, you can increase the chance of rarer items appearing in shops while also receiving a 10% discount on their final price. You'll be especially interested in buying Berries you don't already have, furniture with special designs, or particularly useful and uncommon materials such as Rare Pokémetal.
