In Pokémon Pokopia, two of the many materials you can obtain are two types of special feathers directly connected to the Gen II Legendary Pokémon Lugia and Ho-Oh. If you've only just started playing, you may not be entirely sure how to obtain both Silver and Rainbow Feathers or exactly what they're used for. In this entry of our guide, we'll answer both questions in detail.
Silver Feathers are associated with Lugia, while Rainbow Feathers are associated with Ho-Oh. Both can be obtained completely at random when either of these two Legendary Pokémon appears flying overhead.
Lugia and Ho-Oh's appearances are entirely random, so you'll never know exactly when one of them might show up. As far as we know, they aren't tied to any particular weather conditions or times of day. Their appearances also don't depend on your current area or biome, meaning Lugia and Ho-Oh can appear at any time. However, they never appear together, and neither of them can appear on Drifloon's Dream Islands.
You'll know that Lugia or Ho-Oh is flying nearby when you hear its distinctive cry. When this happens, tilt the camera upward and look for the Legendary Pokémon flying through the sky. At some point during its flight, shortly before leaving, it will drop one of its feathers onto the ground.
These feathers are easy to tell apart and can be spotted from a distance. Silver Feathers are surrounded by a whirlwind, while Rainbow Feathers are engulfed in flames and covered by a trail of smoke.
To collect a Silver Feather, you'll need to use Ditto's special Cut move to dispel the whirlwind.
To collect a Rainbow Feather, meanwhile, you'll need to use Water Gun to put out the flames surrounding it.
It's also worth remembering that after completing the "Brighten Things Up" Important Request in Bleak Beach, you can offer Mosslax food with a dry flavor to increase the appearance rate of Lugia and Ho-Oh. Dry-flavored food improves your chances of seeing Pokémon that drop these rare feathers. Otherwise, obtaining them comes down to luck, although these Legendary Pokémon aren't extremely rare to begin with.
Once you have Silver Feathers and Rainbow Feathers in your inventory, you may not be entirely sure what to do with them. These two materials can primarily be traded to Gimmighoul or Gholdengo, as they are the only two Pokémon in the game with the Collect specialty.
Gimmighoul can be found inside the museum building in the northern part of Rocky Ridges. Gholdengo, meanwhile, can be found by creating its Absolute Luxury habitat by placing one Luxury lamp, one Luxury bed, one Luxury sofa, and one Luxury table together in the same area.
Once you've befriended Gimmighoul or Gholdengo, you can give them Silver Feathers, Rainbow Feathers, and Lost Relics to receive random special items in return, including rare furniture, toys, and more. It's an excellent way to get rare items for "free".
Besides trading them, remember that Silver Feathers are also used to craft the Tidal Bell, while Rainbow Feathers are used to craft the Clear Bell. These two items are required to befriend Lugia and Ho-Oh, respectively, as explained in greater detail in their dedicated section of our guide.
Now you know exactly what to do with the feathers you obtain from these two Legendary Pokémon.
