The chess puzzle is one of the classic puzzles from Resident Evil 2. However, it’s important to remember that this puzzle is very different from the one in the original game. This time, you can’t simply pick up the plugs and place them in the sockets. Instead, you need to work out where each one goes based on the notes next to the sockets by the door leading to the Garbage Room.
Of course, before you can even start racking your brain over the solution and opening the door, you’ll first need to collect all the plugs.
First of all, you need to collect the King, Queen, and Rook Plugs. You’ll then find the Pawn, Bishop, and Knight Plugs in the Monitor Room, where the puzzle is solved. Arrange them as shown below, depending on whether you’re playing the first scenario or the 2nd Run.
On the left: starting from the far end, place the Knight, Rook, and Bishop Plugs.
On the right: again starting from the far end, place the King, Queen, and Pawn Plugs.
The solution for the 2nd Run is as follows:
