Resident Evil 2 Remake: All Alternate Costumes and How to Unlock Them

Resident Evil 2 Remake allows you to change your character’s costume to one you prefer. Before you can do so, however, you must first unlock it. Once unlocked, simply select "Costumes" from the main menu or the pause menu during a game, then choose the costume you want; your character’s outfit changes immediately.

It is worth noting that many of the costumes are DLC and cannot be obtained without purchasing them. However, there are also several interesting costumes that can be unlocked through gameplay, albeit with a fair amount of effort.

First of all, selecting Normal Costumes / Alternate Costumes from the Costumes menu will cause your character’s clothing to change naturally as the story progresses. For example, Claire removes her jacket to give it to Sherry, while Leon loses his shirt sleeves after being injured. However, if you select any of the unlocked costumes, your character will wear that outfit throughout the entire game.

The Alternate Costumes, based on the characters’ outfits from the original game, are unlocked simply by completing the game. However, other requirements must be met if you want to select Leon’s injured appearance or Claire’s classic outfit without the jacket from the beginning.

Story Mode Costumes

Normal Costumes: the characters’ outfits change naturally as the story progresses. This is the default option.
Alternate Costumes: the characters’ outfits change naturally as the story progresses, but use the designs from the 1998 game. You must complete the game to unlock them.

Unlockable Costumes

These costumes are unlocked by meeting certain requirements. Bear in mind that this section also includes the Alternate Costumes, although here it refers to options such as wearing Claire’s classic outfit without the jacket from the very beginning.

Leon

• Casual: the hoodie and jeans worn during the prologue. Unlocked by progressing through the story.
• R.P.D.: the standard R.P.D. police uniform. Unlocked by progressing through the story.
• R.P.D. (Injured): Leon’s uniform after he is shot. Unlocked by progressing through the story.
• R.P.D. Classic: the standard R.P.D. police uniform featuring its classic 1998 design. Allows Leon to wear the uniform without bandages throughout the entire game. Unlocked by completing Hardcore Mode with Leon.
• R.P.D. Classic (Injured): Leon’s uniform after he is shot, featuring its classic 1998 design. Allows Leon to wear the bandaged version throughout the entire game. Unlocked by completing Hardcore Mode with Leon.
• Noir: an outfit inspired by mid-20th-century detectives. Only available as DLC.
• Arklay Sheriff: is that you, Rick? Only available as DLC.

Claire

• Jacket: Claire’s red jacket and regular jeans. Unlocked by progressing through the story.
• Tank Top: Claire’s outfit without the jacket after she gives it to Sherry. Unlocked by progressing through the story.
• Classic Jacket: Claire’s classic alternate outfit. Allows her to wear the classic jacket throughout the entire game. Unlocked by completing Hardcore Mode with Claire.
• Classic Tank Top: Claire’s classic alternate outfit without the jacket after she gives it to Sherry. Allows her to wear the classic outfit without the jacket throughout the entire game. Unlocked by completing Hardcore Mode with Claire.
• Noir: an outfit inspired by mid-20th-century detectives. Only available as DLC.
• Military: a S.T.A.R.S. combat uniform. Only available as DLC.
• Elza Walker: the motorcycle suit worn by the protagonist of Resident Evil 1.5 before the project was scrapped. Only available as DLC.

How to Unlock the 1998 Models

In addition to the Alternate Costumes based on the characters’ 1998 outfits, you can also play using costumes that are actually the original 1998 character models. Yes, the blocky ones. However, obtaining them is currently quite difficult.

For the time being, they can only be obtained in Japan, with one way of acquiring them being through the purchase of a special PSN Card. However, they will become available to all PS4 players for free from March 22.

There is currently no news regarding whether these costumes will be released on other platforms.
