Below you will find a complete list of all the enemies in Resident Evil 2 Remake, along with tips on how to kill them. First, here is a general tip that applies to almost every enemy.

  • There is a "dirty" trick you can use to kill enemies: simply retreat into an adjacent room.
  • With the exception of zombies and the Tyrant, enemies generally will not leave the room they are in.
  • Stand against the door and open it slightly by pushing it with your body, then shoot the enemy on the other side.
  • When you leave a room containing Lickers, they automatically return to a neutral position when you re-enter, allowing you to catch them by surprise or avoid them completely.

Zombie

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Zombie
  • Where they appear: throughout the game.

This is the standard enemy. Their weak point is the head, but you can also sever their arms and legs with gunshots or a knife. This means you can shoot off one of their legs and force them to crawl, making them less dangerous, although they can still attack you. They can bite you even without arms or legs, so be careful.

There is no way to know whether a zombie is truly dead unless its head has exploded. Whenever you knock one down or pass through an area containing several bodies, we recommend shooting or stabbing them in the head to avoid any nasty surprises.

They are not much of a threat unless they attack in groups, but keep them in mind when facing more dangerous enemies. They can get in your way just long enough for something else to kill you.

Licker

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Licker
  • Where they appear: mainly in the Police Station’s west wing. Two also appear in the basement of the Laboratory’s east wing.

The Licker is the result of an infection caused by one of the special strains of the T-Virus. They are agile, deadly, extremely aggressive, and completely blind.

Their weak point is the exposed brain on their head. A brain in the head—thanks, Captain Obvious! However, there are a few things you should bear in mind:

  • They are blind. They will not detect you if you walk instead of running, allowing you to get close enough for a highly effective shot to the brain or avoid them entirely.
  • If you run or fire a weapon in a room containing Lickers, they will hear you.
  • They are extremely fast, so running away from a Licker is not an option unless you can put a door between you and it. If you want to stop one from pursuing you, your only option is to back away while facing it and shoot when it leaps toward you.
  • They can leap from walls—or even directly from the ground—and cover enormous distances, which is why outrunning them is almost impossible. At medium range, they can also lash out with their tongue in an instant without moving.
  • They can crawl across walls and ceilings, so be careful while exploring the Police Station’s west wing, as one may be hiding nearby.

There is a great way to kill Lickers that is dirty but effective. Enter a room where you know one is waiting and attract its attention by shooting it, for example. Leave the room before it has time to reach you, wait a few seconds, and then go back inside. The creature will have returned to a "neutral" position and forgotten about you. You can repeat this process ad nauseam until it dies.

Zombie Dog

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Zombie Dog
  • Where they appear: when playing as Leon, in the Kennel beneath the Police Station and in the Parking Garage when you return to the Jail with the second Electronic Part. When playing as Claire, they appear on the streets between the Police Station and the Orphanage.

It is a dog, and it is a zombie. There is not much more to say. A couple of hits anywhere on its body will kill it. Its main danger is that it usually attacks as part of a group. Zombie Dogs are fast and present a very small target, so they can easily flank you and attack at high speed.

If you can put a fence between you and them—and fences conveniently tend to be nearby wherever they appear—you can exploit their greatest weakness. Before jumping over a fence or crawling beneath a gate, they remain still for a few seconds while preparing to move. This gives you time to shoot them. They will then need to recover and reposition themselves before attempting the jump again, allowing you to finish them off.

G-Adult

Resident Evil 2 Remake - G-Adult
  • Where they appear: in the Sewers. They can only move through flooded areas and never climb onto platforms.

Disgust given physical form. What served as a final boss in the original Resident Evil 2 during the second scenario now appears as a regular monster in the Sewers. There is at least one in every waterway area in the Sewers, meaning anywhere you have to walk through the water.

They always appear one at a time except in one area: the refuse-filled section immediately before the room containing the King and Queen Plugs. They have three main weaknesses.

  • The swollen left shoulder: keep shooting it until you break through the outer shell and expose a giant eye, which is its true weak point.
  • The Chemical Flamethrower and the Spark Shot or Grenade Launcher loaded with Flame Rounds are extremely effective against them.
  • They are only a threat while you are in the water. If you climb onto a platform and move a short distance away, they will disappear beneath the surface, although they will remain nearby and wait for you to pass them again.

When it comes to fighting them, the best option is not to fight at all. While moving through the waterways, look for somewhere you can climb out of the water. They almost never block your path completely, so you can usually avoid them. In the section where several appear, simply run to the Supplies Storage Room containing the plugs. When leaving the area, you can safely cross the flooded section by staying close to the northern wall.

Their attacks are fairly simple. They can spit out G-Young, which you should kill with a single shot or avoid by climbing onto higher ground. If you get too close or walk over them while they are submerged, they will usually grab you, giving you the opportunity to shove a grenade into their mouth if you have one available. They can also spit acid or charge through the water at high speed and grab you.

Giant Alligator

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Giant Alligator
  • Where it appears: this enemy is exclusive to Leon’s story.

You know that urban legend about alligators living in the sewers? Well, it seems the rats that carried the T-Virus infection into Raccoon City’s sewer system were also responsible for infecting a gigantic alligator. Fortunately, you will only encounter it while playing as Leon.

This encounter is more of a cinematic set piece than a real enemy battle. To survive, simply run along the left side of the screen, then the right, back to the left, and finally through the center. Leon will automatically move into position so you can shoot a pipe and kill it.

G-Young

Resident Evil 2 Remake - G-Young
  • Where they appear: only when expelled by a G-Adult.

This is the most basic monster in the game. Its purpose is to infect other bodies and determine whether they are compatible with the G-Virus. If they are not, the creature tears its unfortunate victim apart from the inside. G-Young only appear after being expelled by a G-Adult. Their modus operandi consists of swimming rapidly toward your character and attempting to latch onto them.

Like the adult form, they can only move through water. As soon as you reach dry land, they are no longer a threat. They die from a single hit and are little more than a nuisance that can distract you while you are dealing with the adults.

Ivy

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Ivy
  • Where they appear: only in the Laboratory: in the hallway connecting the Lobby to the Greenhouse Control Room, inside the Greenhouse, and on the stairs connecting the basement to the Lobby.

The Ivy is a new type of monster that replaces the Ivy creatures from the original game and offers a more realistic interpretation of the Ivy and Ivy +YX enemies. It is a corpse infected by Plant 43 and reanimated by plant-like parasites.

It is not especially dangerous or aggressive. It will lunge toward you and attempt to grab you like a regular zombie, at which point you can counterattack with a defensive item.

It has two main weaknesses. The first is the collection of yellow bulbs covering its body. Whenever any attack hits one of these bulbs—even a knife attack—the Ivy will be temporarily stunned. Destroy enough bulbs and it will fall.

Its other weakness is fire, which is also the only way to kill it permanently. By "permanently," we mean that if you do not use Flame Rounds or the Chemical Flamethrower, it will revive after a while.

Tyrant – Mr. X

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Tyrant
  • Where he appears: mainly in the Police Station, although he also appears in a few other specific locations.

The Tyrant, better known as Mr. X, is an extremely unusual enemy. We have therefore given him a dedicated section of his own. See our guide to learn everything about the Tyrant, Mr. X: how to avoid him, how to lose him, tricks for preventing him from appearing, and much more.

Super Tyrant

Resident Evil 2 Remake - Super Tyrant
  • Where he appears: he is Leon’s final boss.

With the limiter that maintained his humanoid form destroyed, the Tyrant mutates into a beast with an enormous claw. He is also more agile. Although he still cannot run, he can leap toward your character and cover a considerable distance.

The first thing you need to know is that you cannot kill him normally; you simply have to survive for around two minutes. He is extremely resilient and very difficult to stagger. Even with a fully upgraded Lightning Hawk, you will need five or six shots to the heart, his weak point.

However, a Hand Grenade or Flash Grenade will stagger him instantly, so it is a good idea to have plenty of them. If he gets close to you, do not attempt to dodge by circling around him or running perpendicular to his path, as he will hit you. Ironically, the best way to avoid his attacks is to turn your back to him and run in the opposite direction as soon as he moves his claw.

If he crouches down to leap at you, run toward him. This is the only way to avoid the attack. Once enough time has passed, a short cutscene will play and an Anti-Tank Rocket will land on the ground. Pick it up and use it to finish him off.

G (Stage 1)

  • Where he appears: in the Machinery Room beneath the Police Station after placing all three medallions in the Goddess Statue.

This is the first real "boss" you will face. Good old Dr. Birkin has undergone a horrific mutation that is still in its earliest stages. There is still something human left inside him, although that humanity is quickly disappearing.

To defeat him, begin by shooting his human head a couple of times. This will push him into the next stage of the battle, causing his shoulder to open and expose an eye that becomes his new weak point. Throughout the fight, he is a fairly simple boss who will attempt to strike you with his pipe or use his claws if he manages to get close.

Simply back away slowly, remaining close enough that he does not lose track of you, and shoot him as he approaches. Use the map to avoid becoming trapped in a dead end. Be careful of the steam obscuring your vision when he begins striking the pipes. Keep attacking and he will soon fall.

G (Stage 2)

Resident Evil 2 Remake - G Stage 2
  • Where he appears: at the end of the Sewers after solving the Chess Plug Puzzle.

The very first thing you should do is press the left-arrow button on the nearby control panel to move the shipping container. This will give you more space for the next stage of your battle against Birkin.

If he grabs you, you can use one of your defensive items to stun him. A Hand Grenade or Flash Grenade will also stagger him immediately, but that is not your main objective. Shoot the eye on his shoulder or the one on his back, his two weak points, until he falls to his knees. At that moment, press the other button on the control panel to slam the container into him. Obviously, do not stand within the container’s path or you will die instantly.

Unless you have already dealt enough damage, you will need to repeat the process to kill him: move the container away, force him to the ground, and then hit him with it. Bear in mind that if he is not kneeling when you press the button, he will charge toward you at high speed and land an attack that is almost impossible to avoid.

His attacks are extremely basic and should not cause you too much trouble. In fact, he will not attempt to strike you with his right claw until he is very close, so you may not even see him attack during the battle.

G (Stage 3)

Resident Evil 2 Remake - G Stage 3
  • Where he appears: at the end of the Laboratory section, after obtaining the antiviral agent or virus sample.

In this form, the battle is divided into three very similar phases. As soon as the first phase begins, try to destroy the eye on his left leg—the easiest one to target—to stagger him and create an opportunity to get around the creature.

You should now circle around the central area while avoiding his attacks, but do not enter the gaps between the rows of containers or you may run out of room. Whenever you have a clear shot—the best opportunity is when he slams his claw into the ground and remains still for a couple of seconds—shoot the eye on his right shoulder.

Once the second eye has been destroyed, you do not need to shoot him and should concentrate exclusively on dodging. When he appears to lose interest in you, pay close attention: he will approach one of the rows of containers and pick one up. As soon as he grabs it, destroy the eye on his back. The container will fall on top of him, forcing him to his knees and exposing a cluster of eyes on his chest. Shoot them to deal as much damage as possible.

The second phase is the same as the first, except that you must now run toward him if you see him crouching down to jump. He also gains a much longer and more dangerous claw combo, although it leaves him vulnerable for longer once the sequence ends. You can avoid it by running in circles without having to move too far away. Repeat exactly the same process: leg, shoulder, back, and chest.

The final phase simply requires you to attack his chest as much as possible until he falls. Do not let him get close or you will probably be dead before you realize what has happened. He should already be close to death at this point, so he will not withstand many more attacks.

G (Stage 4)

Resident Evil 2 Remake - G Stage 4
  • Where he appears: he is Claire’s final boss.

In this battle, you simply need to keep attacking his chest: the bulbous mass covered in eyes protruding from Birkin’s penultimate mutation, which is now completely out of control and beginning to collapse. His attacks cover a huge area, so try to keep your distance at all times.

If you picked up the Minigun, now is the time to use it. Whenever he is on the ground, fire continuously. His attacks are not particularly imaginative, as he simply slams his claws vertically into your current position. They are easy to avoid, but you will need to run, so wait until you have created enough distance before opening fire.

When you see him climbing the wall of the lift, dealing enough damage to his eyes will make him fall. Otherwise, he will leap toward you with an attack that is difficult to avoid unless you move to the opposite side of the train car from his current position.

After taking enough damage, his body will split in half, forcing him to drag his upper body across the ground. Curiously, he becomes even more dangerous at this point. His attacks still involve striking the ground, but they are now much harder to avoid. Do not worry, as he has almost no health remaining. Keep attacking a little longer and he will fall.

G (Stage 5)

Resident Evil 2 Remake - G Stage 5
  • Where he appears: aboard the train at the end of the game, exclusively during New Game [2nd Run].

There is not much to say about this battle. He does not attack and simply advances toward you. You cannot retreat or do anything except fire every weapon you have until a cutscene begins.
