In Resident Evil 2 Remake, there are numerous side stories unfolding within the walls of Raccoon City. In addition to an upcoming game mode that we will discuss when the time comes, a classic mode from the original game also returns: The 4th Survivor (as well as The 5th Survivor, although the latter is not canon).

How to play The 4th Survivor (HUNK)

To unlock it, you simply need to complete New Game [2nd Run] with both Leon and Claire.

Resident Evil 2 Remake - HUNK

HUNK, also known as the Grim Reaper or Mr. Death, is the finest member of Umbrella’s U.S.S., its covert special forces unit. He was the sole survivor of the assault on the NEST Laboratory. His objective? To reach the rescue helicopter at the height of the outbreak, with the Police Station swarming with newly reanimated zombies. This mode has a number of special features.

HUNK is equipped with:

  • LE 5 loaded with 32 rounds.
  • 100 additional Submachine Gun Ammo rounds for the LE 5.
  • MUP loaded with 16 rounds.
  • Standard Lightning Hawk loaded with seven rounds.
  • Six additional MAG Ammo rounds for the Lightning Hawk.
  • W-870 with the stock and Long Barrel.
  • Six additional Shotgun Shells for the W-870.
  • Large Gunpowder x2.
  • High-Grade Gunpowder (Yellow) x2.
  • Hand Grenade x3.
  • Flash Grenade x3.
  • First Aid Spray.
  • Green + Blue Herb.
  • Red + Green + Blue Herb.
  • Red + Blue Herb.
Resident Evil 2 Remake - HUNK’s inventory

To complete the mode, you must reach the Police Station’s Main Entrance and leave through the gate, but many doors are locked:

  • First, you must reach the Workers’ Break Room in the Sewers to make your way up to the Police Station’s basement.
  • Next, cross the Boiler Room and head up to the Parking Garage.
  • From there, reach the east wing of the Police Station and make your way to the Main Hall.
  • You must then cross the West Office, climb the stairs to 2F, and pass through the Shower Room and the corridor outside the S.T.A.R.S. Office to reach the Library.
  • From there, make your way to the east wing.
  • Cross the Art Room corridor toward the Chief’s Office and climb the stairs.
  • Leave through the door leading to the Roof, go down the stairs, and re-enter through the helicopter corridor.
  • Go down the Fire Escape, enter the courtyard, and... get ready.
  • An enormous horde of zombies, a G-Adult, and an Ivy are waiting ahead. Be extremely careful with the Ivy.
  • If you manage to get past the Ivy, you are almost done: cross the Underground Stairs and, once you reach the top, turn left to reach the gate.

Here is an extremely important—and arguably crucial—piece of advice: you need to have at least one Flash Grenade to use against the Licker that will leap at you in the corridor after you leave the Parking Garage, one Hand Grenade for the Licker in the Art Room corridor on your way up to the Roof, and a grenade of either type for the Ivy in the courtyard. You should also make sure you have six MAG rounds for the two Ivy enemies in the S.T.A.R.S. Office corridor.

The main problem is that there is no ammunition or any other item to collect. Furthermore, you will encounter an enormous number of enemies, including Lickers and several Tyrants—yes, you read that correctly: several. There is not just one, so you will encounter Tyrants at several points even if you manage to lose them—as well as Ivy enemies that can kill you instantly in the S.T.A.R.S. Office corridor...
