The Ruckus at Rendaino is the first chapter of the story in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. As usual, throughout this spoiler-free walkthrough we'll help you complete every story chapter 100%, making sure you don't miss anything along the way and providing tips for the more difficult situations.
After the opening sequence, you'll go through the usual basic combat tutorial. Follow the instructions to learn the fundamental combat mechanics. Nothing too complicated here, and this doesn't even count as a boss fight.
After the fight and the following cutscenes, you'll continue with the combat tutorials. This time you'll learn about Deflect and Reflex Dodge. These are fundamental techniques related to Issen, the instant-kill attacks that have been a core part of the Onimusha series since the beginning, although you'll soon discover that things work a little differently this time around.
You'll also get a brief explanation of how to use environmental objects, such as planks and carts, to neutralize enemies. After that, defeat all the Yoshioka students to trigger another cutscene. Roll credits!
Now it's time for your first real fight outside the tutorials. You're still in the prologue, so these enemies are little more than cannon fodder. They're nothing to worry about: just the basic Genma you'd expect to encounter during the opening stages of an Onimusha game. There will be plenty of time for more dangerous abominations later. For now, you'll be taught how to use Issen, the instant-kill technique mentioned earlier.
After the cutscene, your objective remains the same: defeat the Genma around you. There are no more tutorials, so from here you're on your own.
After the first wave, defeat the new Genma and follow the tutorial to seal the Rift and stop more enemies from appearing. Once that's done, you'll be able to speak with the man you came here to find. For now, don't wander off; just follow him. After a short walk and a couple of conversations, it's time to learn a few more things.
Follow Okuni and she'll introduce you to the Spirit Mirror. After the conversation and receiving the Hozuki Pouch, the game's rechargeable healing item, you'll begin The Stage is Set at Kiyomizu.
