Remember that the material chest locations listed here correspond to your first visit to each area and are also covered in our story walkthrough. As you progress through the game, new chests containing this material may appear in different locations.

Iron is also rewarded for completing certain missions. You can obtain it by completing the following:
You'll find one piece east of Rokudo-chinnoji Temple. It's inside a chest between two houses slightly east of the temple.
There's another piece in a chest east of the Higashioji Street Spirit Mirror, on the northern side of the field in a courtyard full of enemies.
Another piece can be found in the chest beside the Treasure north of Rokudo-chinnoji Temple.
You'll find another piece inside a chest in the northwestern corner of the courtyard containing the northern Rift, which you sealed during the previous mission.
There's another chest close to one of the Treasures in northeastern Eastern Kyoto. You'll need to wait until the Malice covering the region has receded before you can reach it.
There's another piece in a chest northeast of the previous one, at an intersection.
There's a chest containing two pieces in the southwestern corner of the southeastern fields. To reach it, follow the route shown below to find a ladder in the northeastern corner of the building. You can use it to enter the area.
Once you're down there, go around the street and shoot through the hole in the fence to break the lock on the gate. The chest is on a cart beyond it. You'll find another one in the stables in the west-southwestern part of the fields, just south of the watchtower.
You'll find another piece on the eastern side of the courtyard where you need to defeat several enemies during Clear Space, Clear Mind.
When the story sends you to the old temple during Patching up the Pouch, you'll find another chest beside the exit. You'll pass right by it as part of the story.
When you reach Windswept Kennin-ji, follow the steps needed to reach Eastern Kyoto Treasure #22. From the Treasure chest, head up the slope and go south within the compound to find another Iron chest.
As you progress through the story, you'll eventually visit Toribeno, the southeasternmost area of the fields. Once there, follow the natural route until you reach the southeastern corner, where several huts are located. You'll find a chest containing two pieces of Iron.
In the southwestern sector, southeast of the Kamo River - East Spirit Mirror, there's a courtyard containing another chest. This area becomes accessible once the Malice in south-southwestern Kyoto has receded.
There's another one at the intersection southwest of Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, on the street leading toward the fields.
There's a chest inside the compound south of the Gojo Street - West Spirit Mirror, in the same courtyard where you'll also find a Treasure chest. It contains another piece of Iron.
To the west of the previous location is a complex of buildings. In the middle, there's a courtyard where you'll find another chest.
You'll find another one in the southwestern corner of the fields, inside the storehouse with the ladder.
During Shadows Fall, when you reach the ravine in the southeastern corner of Kyoto, follow the path to the end before using the wall-running section to find a chest containing two pieces.
Once you can reach the sandbar, in the northwesternmost part of Kyoto, which you first visit as part of the story, follow the route shown below. This is the point where you can wall run to reach the southwestern corner of the central area, where you'll find an Iron chest.
Once you have full access to the sandbar, cross the bridge to the east and head south along the street beside the river until you reach a building whose rooftop can be accessed so you can use a wall-running section.
This takes you into an enclosed courtyard. Move into the courtyard to the right by passing through the building in your current courtyard. You'll find the chest in the northwestern corner.
There's another chest northwest of the previous one. It's on the street running east to west just south of the northernmost street.
East of the southern end of Shijo Street, you'll find a cart with another chest containing Iron.
There's another chest directly southeast of the previous one, behind a small building in the field.
You'll find another one at one of the market stalls to the northeast.
There's another chest directly northwest of Treasure #60.
In the northeastern barrier area, before the Oni Gate, there's scaffolding with enemies shooting at you. Climb the ladder to find an Iron chest at the far end of the scaffolding.
There's one more piece in the northwestern corner of the courtyard directly east of Yasaka Shrine.
You can find an Iron chest beyond the Malice Barrier in the southwestern part of the area.
You'll need to progress through the story before you can destroy it.
There's a chest containing one piece in the linear west-southwestern section. It's beneath the roof beside the first ladder.
You'll find a chest on the eastern side of the courtyard beside the ruined building, beyond the gate near the second Spirit Mirror in the area.
Later, when you use a lever inside the cave to move the large hanging crates, you'll wall run along the sides of two of them to move south. From the point where you land, head west to find another chest at the edge of the platform.
There's an Iron chest in the northeastern corner of the northern garden near the temple entrance.
When you reach the Temple area, you'll find another chest inside the first house southeast of the Temple Spirit Mirror.
You'll find a chest during the initial ascent. Before taking the northern exit, follow the east-southeastern branch from the upper section to find the chest inside a room.
There's another chest in the southeastern corner of the Second Layer, where you encounter the first group of Genma.
There's another chest on the Second Layer. You'll find it by taking the ladders to the south while following the route leading northwest.
