Patching up the Pouch is the eighth chapter of the story in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It begins at the end of A Strength in Refuge, after returning from the Oni Refuge. As usual, throughout this spoiler-free walkthrough we'll help you complete every story chapter 100%, making sure you don't miss anything along the way and providing tips for the more difficult situations.
The first thing you should do is visit any Spirit Mirror. In the Growth menu, you'll see that a good number of new basic and special abilities are now available to unlock. Better yet, most of them require red souls rather than Oni Stones or Power Stones. After all the exploring you've done, you should have accumulated enough to afford quite a few of them.
We recommend focusing on Deflection-related upgrades among the Basic Abilities and on The Two Celestials upgrades in the Oni Armaments section of the Special Abilities tree. Yes, you're going to need a huge number of Power Stones and Oni Stones. Don't worry, we'll keep finding more as we progress. Since we already explored all of Kyoto in the previous chapter, you can either wander around hunting Genma if you need more souls or head straight to the objective marker. Some material chests may also have respawned, although we haven't found any consistent pattern to when this happens. Feel free to take another look around if you want.
When you speak with Okuni, you'll receive the Old Temple Key.
You'll have a marker to the southwest, pointing toward one of the locked gates you've passed several times while exploring Kyoto.
Head straight ahead; the door on the right can't be opened. Continue to the southeasternmost building to find a new Treasure. It contains a Lesser Soul Crystal — and a surprise.
After opening it, climb out through the window and pass underneath the wooden boards to continue. Inside the small shed on the northern side of this courtyard is a chest containing Hempen Cloth.
Now enter the building to the west. There's only one route through this building, and you'll encounter a new type of Genma along the way. These are essentially stronger versions of the basic enemies: some wear armor and take more punishment, they can absorb souls to enter a Blazing state, and they also have a special grab attack. They still shouldn't give you too much trouble. Once you drop down into the courtyard from the upper floor, a large group of enemies will appear. Notice the explosive barrels on one of the ledges; shoot them to take out several enemies at once.
Once you've defeated them all, head north, pass through the gate and turn right without climbing the wooden slope. In the corner, you'll find a chest containing Hempen Cloth and a Whetstone.
Now turn around and climb over the wooden debris toward the building at the far end.
Inside is an Oni Glyph. Activate it to reveal a Treasure containing Oni Cloth (Healing).
Leave through the side of the building and you'll find a chest containing Iron.
Return to Okuni and give her the Oni Cloth (Healing) to receive the Hozuki Pouch: Default. We'll soon collect some of the other Pouch variants now within our reach, but for the moment it's time to begin Windswept Kennin-ji.
