Among the many points of interest you can find in Onimusha: Way of the Sword are Rifts. You'll encounter several of them throughout the story, and we won't list those here. Instead, this section covers the locations of optional Rifts, which let you fight certain bosses again and obtain materials that can only be found at these locations scattered throughout Eastern Kyoto.
Some Rifts only appear during side missions. Sealing them will also reward you with materials. You can find them in the following missions:
These are the Rifts in Eastern Kyoto that you won't seal as part of the main story:
This Rift appears in the northeastern part of the map starting from Careful What You Wish For, inside a courtyard reached by heading east from the Higashioji Street Spirit Mirror.
Sealing it rewards you with Malicite x4 and Malicite Mass x2.
In addition, if you return after defeating Byakue, Hundred Defilements, the Rift will reopen and one of these enemies will emerge for you to defeat. As you progress further through the story, this Rift stops appearing. From that point on, Byakue will instead appear at Rift #4.
This Rift is located in the southwestern corner of the map. You'll need to wait until you reach Bloodbath on the Bridge to access this location. You can reach it during that mission, although if you don't want to explore yet, you can simply wait another couple of missions.
Dohatsu-ten, Heaven's Bane emerges from this Rift. You can use it to farm Dohatsu-ten's Horns.
This Rift appears in the old temple southwest of Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, at some point between your visit during Patching up the Pouch and Bloodbath on the Bridge. It's in the courtyard where you fought a large number of Genma during the story, after jumping down from the attic of the building you were passing through.
This Rift releases waves of regular Genma.
This Rift appears starting from Okuni's Kabuki Dance. It's located in the southernmost-southeastern part of the southern fields, southwest of Toribeno. You previously passed through this location as part of the story to seal another Rift.
Byakue, Hundred Defilements will emerge from this Rift once it stops appearing at Rift #1.
This Rift appears starting from The Demon on the Mount. It's located on the bridge in the southwestern corner of Kyoto.
This Rift can spawn either Byakue or Dohatsu-ten.
This Rift appears starting from The Demon on the Mount. It's located on the eastern bank of the Kamo River, southeast of the sandbar.
This Rift releases regular Genma.
This Rift appears starting from The Demon on the Mount. It's located in the northeasternmost part of Kyoto, southeast of Yasaka Shrine.
This is a two-round Rift, with either Byakue or Dohatsu-ten appearing in the second round.
