All Resident Evil Requiem Difficulty Modes and Their Differences

Resident Evil Requiem gives you the option, as usual, to play on several different difficulty settings. Beyond the usual general changes to enemies and their behavior, there are a couple of particularly significant differences this time around that you should take into account before starting the game. It is therefore best to know about them beforehand.

Easy mode

The easiest mode in the game, available from the beginning. As you might expect, enemies deal less damage and have less health. Leon has plenty of autosaves and, as you progress through the game, he will also be able to save manually at certain points. By contrast, Grace has fewer autosaves and must use typewriters to save manually. On this difficulty, Grace does not need to use Ink Ribbons when saving.

Standard mode (Modern)

One of the standard difficulty options, available from the beginning. Broadly speaking, it is the same as Easy mode, but with tougher enemies.

Standard mode (Classic)

This is the same as the other Standard mode, but with one key difference: whenever you want to save manually as Grace, you will need Ink Ribbons. These ribbons can be found or crafted as you progress through the game.

Madness mode

The most difficult mode, which becomes available after completing the game for the first time.

On this difficulty, Grace follows the same saving rules as in Classic mode, and there are also several other differences:

  • Blister Heads can appear from the beginning of the game, and they are far more numerous than on the previous difficulty settings.
  • Enemies award more credits to Leon.
  • As a general rule, Grace will die if she is grabbed by any enemy, unless you increase her health using Steroids (which is not worth it) or have the Eye Spy Charm equipped (although this does not guarantee her survival either).
  • The Game Room offers a different selection of items that can be obtained in exchange for coins.
  • Enemies drop Ancient Coins that can be exchanged in the Game Room.
  • The combinations for Safes are different, although this does not apply to the game's other puzzles.
  • Grace can obtain the Polymerized Blood Sample, which allows her to craft Handgun Ammo x30 and the R.I.P. Knife, which can also appear as an item.
  • Enemies yield more blood.
  • Several items have been moved within the Patient Center. For example, the Pantry Key will be inside the locker in the Waiting Room, while the B934 will also be found in the Waiting Room. However, key items required for progression will not be moved.

Madness is a mode that is best played using special weapons and infinite ammo, unless you are looking for an extremely demanding challenge.
