The Lake Monster is the first boss in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Here, we explain how to defeat the creature lurking beneath the waters of the village.
Among the many enemies in Resident Evil 4 Remake are several that serve as area bosses. There are only a few of them, and their unique battles force you to fight under specific conditions. In this section of the guide, we will help you defeat the Lake Monster, the boss encountered at the end of Chapter 3.
Lake Monster: How to defeat it and strategies
The Lake Monster must be fought from a boat, and you cannot use your usual attacks, making the conditions completely different from those of other boss battles.
- You can aim a harpoon and move at the same time.
- You cannot heal. If the boat's durability gauge is completely depleted, you will die instantly.
- You must avoid every obstacle in your path, bearing in mind that the monster will be pulling you along throughout the battle.
- Releasing the aim button throws the harpoon you are holding. Be careful not to waste valuable seconds because of this.
- You can damage the monster without hitting its mouth, although striking it in the mouth deals more damage.
- Avoid moving in a straight line. The monster will frequently dive beneath the water before leaping backwards. You can hit it with a harpoon while it is airborne, but if you continue in a straight line, it will land on you and deal damage.
- In addition to the attack above, the monster will occasionally disappear and cause the boat to stop. Pay attention to where it resurfaces. Track the creature for a few moments until it charges towards you with its mouth open. Throw a harpoon into its mouth to interrupt the attack.
- Those are its only two attacks. Any other damage you suffer will come from colliding with obstacles, although these are generally easy to avoid.
Remember that the Lake Monster is only one of the many monsters in the game. Although you can only use harpoons against this creature, you will be able to use any of Leon's many available weapons against the others.
