What a tense ending to Chapter 5 of Resident Evil 4 Remake, eh? Short but intense... although, just like the previous chapter, it ended with another revelation that gives us another bloody problem to solve, even if we cannot do anything about it yet. Yes, yes, we are sure eeeeverything will work out. It is not as if the hero and the president's daughter are going to die. When you regain control of Leon, you will be in an area north of the Village.
Follow the only available path until you reach a cabin with the Merchant. There are resources both inside and outside the building, and our friend has a new shotgun, the Riot Gun, which you should take with you. It will serve you well throughout much of the game. Continue onwards and, after opening the double doors, you can use this area as a choke point to eliminate the enemies, as they can only approach you from the front.
Once you can continue, climb the stairs on your left to head back in the direction you came from. You will find a chest containing a Yellow Diamond. Naturally, do not forget to search every shed for crates or barrels containing resources. Afterwards, in the area beyond the double doors, be careful when climbing the stairs on the left. There is an enemy hiding inside the shack. You will also find a chest containing the Chalice of Atonement, along with several resources.
Before leaving for the next area, destroy Clockwork Castellan #06.
Shortly afterwards, you will reach an area called the Checkpoint: do not head towards the objective to the southeast. Instead, explore the area, where you will encounter a couple of enemies. You will find plenty of items and, by climbing the stairs in the northeastern corner, you can reach the northern section of the building's roof, drop down and enter the building. As soon as you enter, have Ashley hide inside the locker, collect a few items and examine the wall at the back. To the surprise of... well, everyone, the Bella Sisters will appear, armed with chainsaws.
Without wasting a second, leave the way you came and run up the ramp, forcing the enemies to approach from fewer directions—although you should still watch out for the enemies waiting above. Once the area is clear, collect all the items, including the Checkpoint Crank dropped by one of the sisters. If you climb back up and look around, you will find several items on the building's upper floor. At the southwestern end, you will also find Wayshrine #05, which contains an Elegant Headdress.
You can now head southeast and open the gate using the Checkpoint Crank. For a while, simply continue forwards and collect any items you find. After a cutscene, it will be time to run. Do not stop for too long and make use of the explosive barrels. If the big guy reaches Ashley, it is Game Over. When you reach the bridge, turn left and cross the wooden platforms. After visiting the Merchant and collecting a few items, enter the Slaughterhouse, where a cutscene will play.
The battle is divided into two phases. During the first, you can focus on avoiding the enemy, watching for the Evade prompt so you can duck beneath his attacks and approaching to stab the monster whenever he drops to one knee. After taking enough damage, Méndez will mutate and begin swinging from the rafters.
During this phase, he has two attack patterns: long-range and mid-range. When he is farther away, pay attention to the objects he picks up. If he grabs wooden beams, he will either throw them one after another—raising one above his head first—in which case you should run to the sides to dodge them, or hurl both in a criss-cross pattern—raising them simultaneously—which you can avoid by remaining still. If he picks up explosive barrels, shoot them to make them explode. When he moves closer, press Evade when the prompt appears and blast him repeatedly with the shotgun. If you have upgraded it a little, he should not take long to fall.
You can collect items after defeating him before leaving the building. There is plenty of ammunition scattered around the area, so it is worth taking the time. Be sure to collect Méndez's False Eye from his body, then leave through the window. Continue along the path and, when you reach the treasure marker, look upwards and shoot the hanging lantern to obtain an Emerald, the final treasure in the Village. Now simply continue onwards until Chapter 7 begins.
