Among the many enemies in Resident Evil 4 Remake are several that serve as area bosses. There are only a few of them, and their unique battles force you to fight under specific conditions. In this section of the guide, we will help you defeat Mutated Krauser, the boss encountered in Chapter 14.

Resident Evil 4 Remake - Mutated Krauser

Mutated Krauser: How to defeat him and strategies

The battle is divided into several phases. At the beginning, either use the pillars as cover while advancing or deal enough damage to force Krauser to retreat. If he withdraws, you will not encounter him at the top of the stairs. If you simply avoid his arrows, take cover behind a pillar and then fight him at close range, just as you did during the first battle. After operating a crank, you will pass through a tunnel, so watch out for the mines. Once you descend a ladder, you will see a destructible barrel: walk backwards towards it. Krauser will leap down, allowing you to shoot him and force him to retreat.

He will also appear on top of the far wall before the third mine, so be careful. Immediately afterwards, look to the left at the junction to spot a machine gun mounted on the ceiling. Destroy it, move to the right of the weapon and destroy another machine gun in the corridor ahead. This will allow you to destroy the mines and continue. After the cutscene, proceed to the rooftop, avoiding Krauser's arrows when you reach the top and the grenades he throws as you approach. You will then have to fight him at close range.

After the cutscene, advance with your weapon raised. Krauser will appear in the corridor, and shooting him will prevent him from attacking you. Continue forward and watch for the QTE when he attempts to leap onto you. The final battle begins when you reach the rooftop. Krauser has several fairly simple attacks:

  • Grab: if you see him raise his right claw, crouch and move sideways to your right. If you react quickly enough, you will avoid this dangerous grab attack.
  • Kick and/or leap: these attacks trigger an Evade prompt.
  • Rising slash: a fast attack performed with his left arm. He lowers the arm slightly before swinging it upwards, giving you enough time to block.
  • Spinning slash: he turns all the way around before attacking, making this move easy to anticipate.
  • Ground slam: when he retreats after taking damage, climb the stairs in the arena to avoid his powerful strike against the ground.
  • Stinger: from medium or long range, he pulls back his blade-like arm before charging straight towards you. Try to parry the attack or he will impale you, as it is difficult to dodge.

Throughout the entire encounter, Krauser reacts to gunfire. Before mutating, he uses Flash Grenades, while afterwards he blocks incoming shots. You can fire a few rounds at him, but he will quickly interrupt your attacks, so rely on your knife—at least until it breaks.

Remember that Mutated Krauser is only one of the many monsters in the game. Defeating him should be relatively straightforward with any of Leon's many available weapons.
