Among the many enemies in Resident Evil 4 Remake are several that serve as area bosses. There are only a few of them, and their unique battles force you to fight under specific conditions. In this section of the guide, we will help you defeat Verdugo, the boss encountered in Chapter 10.
First of all, you do not need to defeat this boss. If you survive long enough for the lift to arrive, you can simply enter it and escape, although you will not receive the corresponding reward. You should also know that Verdugo will attack before the boss battle begins. During the tunnel section, watch for the Evade prompt whenever you hear a noise to avoid its stinger-like tail. With that in mind, the key to this battle is locating the liquid nitrogen showers. There are three along the corridor, and they look like this:
Two or three seconds after being activated, they release a blast of liquid nitrogen directly beneath them. This will damage Leon, but if it hits Verdugo, the creature will be frozen. This is when you can deal significant damage; otherwise, your attacks will barely affect it. The showers reset after a short time, usually around one or two minutes. Since they are essential to the battle, these are the locations of all the liquid nitrogen showers:
When the monster emerges from a side tunnel—until then, it will only use the tail attack that you can evade—you must press the nearest button. You will hear a loud crashing sound when it appears, which you can use as a warning. Ideally, you should run away from the shower grate. You will not have enough time to pass underneath it without taking damage.
Verdugo will generally catch up with you as the nitrogen is released and make no attempt to avoid it, causing it to freeze. While it is immobilised, use melee attacks or firearms—whichever you prefer—and continue repeating the process until it dies. Its attacks are extremely difficult to evade unless you freeze it, so learning the rest of its moves will not be particularly helpful.
Remember that Verdugo is only one of the many monsters in the game. Defeating it should be relatively straightforward with any of Leon's many available weapons.
