Among the many enemies in Resident Evil 4 Remake are several that serve as area bosses. There are only a few of them, and their unique battles force you to fight under specific conditions. In this section of the guide, we will help you defeat Bitores Méndez, the boss of Chapter 6.
You cannot defeat Méndez during his first appearance, when he pursues you. No matter how much you shoot him, he will not fall—he is not Nemesis or Mr X—so simply run away. Avoid the Ganados and shoot the explosive barrels until you escape. You will face him properly after passing the next Merchant and entering the Slaughterhouse. During the first phase, he still has his legs, but his upper body has become insect-like, with two clawed appendages emerging from each shoulder.
During this phase, we recommend climbing to the upper floor. From here, you can press the corresponding button to evade his attacks and also avoid his blockable strike, after which the boss is left vulnerable. Be careful, as he will sometimes perform two consecutive vertical attacks. The main thing you need to watch for is when he drives one appendage into the floor without a block prompt appearing. This means he is about to plant the other one on the opposite side and try to grab you. Run sideways until you leave the attack's area of effect. After dealing enough damage, you can perform a knife finisher from above without having to drop down. It is also worth noting that if you hear him say "Judgement", you must jump down, as he is about to perform an unblockable attack that covers the entire upper floor.
Remaining on the ground gives him access to many more attacks, particularly his grab, while leaving you with very little room to manoeuvre. It is only worth dropping down to avoid Judgement or collect supplies. After taking enough damage, he will enter the second phase of the battle:
During this phase, bear in mind that his attacks depend on the distance between you. When he retreats to the back of the building, watch his appendages. If he picks up one piece of wood followed by another, run sideways to avoid each projectile in turn. If he raises both pieces simultaneously, remain still. He will throw them in a crossed pattern rather than directly at you. If he raises his arms very slowly, he is preparing to throw explosive barrels, which you can shoot to detonate them.
When he lunges towards you and closes the distance, pay attention to the position of his appendages. If he appears to be swinging with them extended in front of him, jump down. He is about to perform an unblockable attack that is easily avoided by dropping to the lower floor. The best strategy is to alternate between dropping down and climbing back up the ladder until he retreats to the far end again. This second phase is easier when fought from a distance.
Remember that Bitores Méndez is only one of the many monsters in the game. Defeating him should be relatively straightforward with any of Leon's many available weapons.
