A standard Handgun obtained automatically as part of the story. It isn't very powerful, but two or three headshots are usually enough to knock a zombie to the ground, allowing you to finish it off with the Knife.
A standard survival knife obtained automatically as part of the story. Don't underestimate its usefulness: performing a perfect dodge with the Knife equipped allows Jill to deliver a powerful slash that may save your life when you least expect it.
The classic Shotgun. One end kills, the other doesn't. It is absolutely lethal against zombies at close range: shooting one in the chest will usually knock it straight to the ground. A point-blank shot aimed at the upper chest will generally blow its head off. It can be found inside Kite Bros. Railway in Downtown. Obtain the Bolt Cutters and use them on the display case to collect it. If you don't pick it up here, it will appear beside the typewriter inside the Subway Tunnels safe room.
An absolute beast of a weapon. It takes a moment to fire because its cylinder must rotate between shots, but it is usually powerful enough to stop almost anything in its tracks, especially a Hunter Gamma with its mouth open. It can be found inside the Office, the safe room located beyond the first Hunter Gamma in the Sewers. If you don't collect it here, it will appear beside the typewriter inside the Subway Tunnels safe room. It can fire Flame, Acid, Explosive, and Mine Rounds. Mine Rounds detonate when an enemy comes close and cannot be crafted by combining Gunpowder or Explosives.
A Handgun with a burst-fire mode that fires three bullets instead of one. It can be found on the table inside the safe room where you begin Jill's section in the Hospital. As its description indicates, it fires three-round bursts. Due to its recoil, some shots may travel too high unless you compensate by pushing the stick downward, but with a little practice, you can land all three shots.
It can be obtained while playing as Jill in the Hospital. Go up to the second floor, crawl through the gap to the right of the Nurses' Station door, and jump through the window into the Courtyard. The weapon is inside a case beside the corpse.
In Nightmare Mode, you will find it near the beginning of the game, after climbing the subway stairs and before reaching the first item box.
Carlos's Handgun and one of his default weapons. It handles in the same way as Jill's Handgun.
Carlos's Knife and one of his default weapons. Unlike Jill, Carlos won't counterattack with it after performing a perfect dodge because he punches enemies instead. Even so, it is still useful for finishing off fallen zombies.
A fully automatic Assault Rifle. It isn't particularly accurate, although unloading an entire magazine into a zombie at point-blank range will prove completely lethal. In our experience, individual rounds deal less damage than Handgun bullets, and you will often need to finish zombies off after they fall. Carlos carries it by default, while Jill will have it in her inventory when playing on Assisted difficulty.
