On the nearby dresser, you will find the Unsealed Envelope. The Message from a Colleague is on the kitchen table, next to the pizza. Turn on the bathroom light to trigger a cutscene. Then answer the phone. Yes, we know, this shouldn't be happening. Follow the only available path.
As you approach the ladder, a cutscene will begin and you must run without stopping. Leave the alley. For now, all you can do is keep moving forward, as there are no side paths, items to collect, or anything else. Another cutscene will soon begin, but don't stop to shoot the zombies: there are far too many of them.
After passing beneath the sign, hurry and turn left at the bus. Otherwise, too many zombies will gather and catch you.
