Among the many collectibles you can obtain in Hell is Us are Research Items. Their main purpose is to provide additional lore and flesh out the story you're experiencing. However, they also have a special function when used in a very specific way. Here, we'll explain how to use them and where to find them all.
Once you've progressed far enough through the story, Tania will join you in the APC. When this happens, you can talk to her and ask her to research these items. This will help you find and open the Vaults of Forbidden Knowledge.
You'll find this item in Senedra Forest, while following the path shortly after starting the game. Head down until you reach the river, then turn around and follow it upstream towards the waterfall. You'll see the Gold Medallion's glow right there.
You'll find it in Senedra Forest, while searching for the APC. From the gate of Caddell's farm, leave the road and always take the path on the left. It won't be long before you spot a ruined stone building.
Go through the doorway directly in front of you and look to the left to see the bell on the ground.
You'll find it in Senedra Forest while solving the Caddell Family Treasure Mystery. It is inside the camp tent.
You can find it in the first section of the Acasa Marshes. Follow the road and path until you reach the excavator and mass grave. With the excavator in front of you, turn the camera to the left and you'll see the item's glow along a side path.
You'll come across it while exploring Jova in the Acasa Marshes. When you reach the military camp—to the right of the marsh save point, towards the house with the lights on—look for the man playing the violin near Captain Vaas. Walk past him and look to the left.
You'll see its glow between the tent and the military vehicle.
You'll find this item in the Acasa Marshes, while exploring the area around Jova. East-southeast of the village is a broken bridge heading south. You'll see the item's glow in the gap in the bridge. In the image, we approached it from the south; if you come from the north, the item will be directly below you at the broken edge of the bridge.
It is in the Acasa Marshes, very close to the previous item. From the broken bridge where you found the previous Research Item, look east to see a save point and a wooden bridge. Cross it and continue straight south. You'll pass a stream and see two soldiers on your right, standing in front of a tunnel entrance. Keep going until you reach a wooden fence. You'll see the item's glow on the right-hand side.
You obtain this item by opening the door associated with the Lymbic Door - Monument West of Acasa Mystery.
You'll find this item in the room behind the door associated with the Martial Lineage Mystery.
It can be found in the Vyssa Hills. From the APC, follow the fence running alongside the road on the left.
You'll find the Syringe on a body at the end of this short detour.
It is obtained by completing Lucky Break.
It can be found in the opening area of Lake Cynon. Follow the path until you see a noticeboard.
The pistol is on a table behind the noticeboard, at the viewpoint.
You'll find it while exploring the bottom of the reservoir at Lake Cynon. After opening the door with the Owl lock, head up the stairs to the south to find the item in one of the corners.
It can be found in Talju, while searching for Caspian Fran. To progress through the opening area, you'll need to cross the railway bridge above the APC. You'll eventually reach a street lined with houses. Continue straight ahead, then look behind you to spot some stairs leading down to a basement.
The glowing item you can see is the Ballot.
You'll find this Research Item in Talju. It is in the yard of the burning house south of the town hall.
Go through the opening in the wall and look to the left to find it.
It can be found in Talju, shortly after the previous item. After collecting the Pamphlet, follow the street south and then east until you see the glow of two consumables: one inside a crate beside the road and another at the bottom of some stairs, on a jetty.
You now need to go around the house on your left through the back yard and cross a ramp, allowing you to use a ladder to reach the first floor. You'll see the journal as soon as you enter through the hole in the wall.
You can find this item in Marastan. From the APC, turn right at the sign and follow the path to the first bridge. When you reach the junction, turn left to cross another bridge, then head up the stairs.
Once at the top, look northwest to spot a lit streetlamp. To the right of the streetlamp is a path through the trees, with a Lymbic creature at the end, standing on the edge of a cliff. Drop down over the edge to find a cave. Follow the tunnel to the end to find the Lymbic Core.
This Research Item can be found in the village of Marastan. Once you reach the upper part of the village, where Tali is located, look for the house on the northern street with a covered garage.
You can see the item's glow from the doorway.
It is found in the caves northwest of the village of Marastan. To reach them, head northwest through the village until you find a house with an open door, a van on the left and a military truck on the right.
Go inside and head down to the basement to find some stairs leading to the house's back yard. Now head uphill from the yard.
Continue straight ahead, then turn left at the second junction and right immediately afterwards. You can drop down from a cliff to enter a cave. Take the path to the left of the save point to find the Marastan Church Key and Note - Tithe, which will begin the Ill-Gotten Gains Mystery. Continue through the other side of the tunnel until you can turn right before the next save point.
You'll reach a room with one enemy and two paths. Take the one with the metal fence to find the Lymbic Rod of Rage, Y and the book.
It can be found in the crypt in Marastan. To find it, enter the room associated with the Ill-Gotten Gains Mystery.
They can be found in the objective room for the Bleak Destiny Good Deed, directly behind the woman to whom you give the map.
You can find it while exploring Arcas Spire in Senedra Forest. When you reach the lower area with the wooden scaffolding and save point, follow the only available path until you reach a ramp before an elevator, with an opening on the right.
Climb the ladder in this opening, then drop down onto the platforms on the right to find the dagger.
It can be found in the upper section of Arcas Spire. As soon as you come up from the underground elevator, you'll see a save point. Search the rooms to the northeast to find it.
It is found in the spike puzzle room in Arcas Spire. It is behind the Fire door at the top of the stairs from the ground floor.
This door is opened by pulling the Fire lever on the ground floor. Check our puzzle solution to see how to open it.
It can be found at the top of Arcas Spire, on the rooftop where the Timeloop is located. Climb the tower opposite the one you used to reach the rooftop. The crown is on the balcony.
To obtain this item, you must first gain access to Observation Outpost 08. Once inside, simply go through the outpost and keep turning left. Walk past the cave entrance until you see a body carrying an item beside an enemy. That item is the case.
It can be found in the Pathem Abbey Timeloop room.
It can be obtained from the safe associated with the History Lesson Mystery.
It can be found in the entrance area of the Lethe National Library. As soon as you enter the storeroom from the street, look to the left and search the gap between the boxes to find this Research Item.
It can be found on the second floor of the National Library. Continue until you see the computer room door, then enter.

This item is obtained as part of the Suspicious Activity Mystery.
They can be found in the Ministry of Cultural Primacy. They are in the accounting office, the first room you'll have to pass through after leaving the car park. Look for the desk with the dead body and telephones.
You need to look directly behind the desk to find them.
It can be found in the exhibition area of the Ministry of Cultural Primacy. As you make your way through this section, you'll pass through a room with a map on the wall.
Look behind the desk to the right of the map to find the item.
It can be found in the underground church in Serpent's Maw. This is the final area in that section of the story. Search the room to the right of the altar to find it.
It can be found on the ground after closing the Francis' Church Timeloop.
You'll find this old piece of junk in the Plains of Mist. It is in the opening area: look for the ruined house to the right of the steps leading to the stone gate sealed with the Two-Headed Serpent. If you look closely, you'll see an item glowing in one corner and a hole in the floor in another.
If you follow the basement all the way to the end, you'll find a ladder. As you climb it, note that you can drop down from the top edge onto an intermediate platform containing several items. This is where you'll find the gauntlet.
It can be found in the room associated with the Ascetic Oath Mystery.
You'll find this item in the opening area of Jeljin. From the APC, head south and pass through the stone arch.
Continue south and head down the stairs. When you reach the lower area, you'll see the item's glow beside Rémi, next to a fence.
You can find this item as you leave the excavation area in Jeljin. When you reach the large mausoleum courtyard northwest of the church, beyond the crane, look for some stairs near the cliff leading down to a slightly lower gallery.
Defeat the Guardian and you'll be able to collect the photo from one of the niches.
It can be found in the drone workshop at the Auriga Museum. You'll need to reach B3 and progress through the story until you're sent to the drone workshop. Look for a blue door with a corpse smashed against the wall beside it.
Enter the room and search one of the rooms along the northern wall to find the box.
It can be found in the locked room associated with the Great Responsibility Mystery.
It can be found in the room associated with the Blackmailed Mystery.
