Welcome to our Hell is Us guide. This is the latest game from Rogue Factor, the studio behind other adventures such as Necromunda: Underhive Wars and Mordheim: City of the Damned. This time, the core mechanics of a soulslike are combined with a game in which you won't have maps, objective markers or explicit guidance while exploring Hadea, the region where the adventure takes place. As always, we've put together a spoiler-free guide to completing the game 100%, which is especially useful since there is plenty of missable content along the way.
The story of Hell is Us introduces us to Rémi Letam. For reasons that are initially unknown, he finds himself in an interrogation room, answering questions about his infiltration of Hadea, a region under military jurisdiction that he should never have entered. But he did, enlisting in order to get inside. The entire story therefore unfolds through a series of flashbacks as he answers his mysterious interrogator. Throughout this guide, we'll help you complete every area 100% while avoiding any potential story spoilers, as always.
While exploring Hadea, the region where Hell is Us takes place, you'll find several weapons that you can use against the creatures infesting the land. Each weapon works differently and has its own combos, characteristics and features. This section of the guide explains how to obtain and upgrade them, but you'll have to try them out for yourself to discover which one best suits your playstyle. Remember that you can equip two different weapons and quickly switch between them at any time.
You'll encounter plenty of threats while exploring Hadea in Hell is Us. To protect yourself from some of them—particularly the enemies you'll have to fight—you'll need to fend them off with your weapons and, of course, use pieces of defensive gear that provide additional advantages. Their benefits range from increased stats to special effects, some of which are always active while others only trigger under certain circumstances. This section of the guide explains how to obtain every piece of armor. Remember that you can equip two pieces at once and combine their effects.
As in many other games, you'll find a large number of collectibles while exploring the world of Hell is Us. Due to the way this particular game is designed, we strongly recommend following our story walkthrough, which includes all of them. They can be found almost anywhere and some are missable, so waiting until the end of the game may mean overlooking quite a few.
While exploring Hadea as part of the story of Hell is Us, it won't be long before you encounter strange black spheres surrounded by distortions and, usually, enemies. The first time you approach one, the game will identify it as a Timeloop. However, it will be a while before you can close them. Once you do, the enemies in that area will disappear, gradually making more of the map safe to explore.
In addition to the usual collectibles, Hell is Us features a number of optional activities that you can complete as you progress through the game's story. These include Mysteries, which are essentially treasure hunts found in specific locations and usually involve finding a key that opens a door or chest. This section of the guide covers every Mystery, how to complete it and the reward you'll receive for doing so.
Good Deeds are a type of optional activity that you can complete in Hell is Us. They generally involve carrying out special favors for certain characters (NPCs). Each one will count as a completed Good Deed, and you can later exchange these invisible points by finding the right merchant. Bear in mind that some characters disappear after reaching certain story milestones, meaning that some Good Deeds are also missable.
