Chronos, the Titan of Time in Hades 2 is the adventure's main final boss, whom you must defeat as part of your mission in the Underworld. Naturally, reaching him involves overcoming a whole series of earlier challenges, including battles against other bosses such as Headmistress Hecate, Scylla and the Sirens and the Infernal Beast. Once you have defeated them, you will eventually face the Titan himself after making your way through Tartarus and reaching the old House of Hades, where this formidable opponent will be waiting for you...

How to prepare for the battle against Chronos

Since Chronos is the game's ultimate final boss, his battle is also the most difficult of them all. The Titan deals huge amounts of damage, has a wide variety of combos and long-range attacks and, on top of that, the encounter is divided into two distinct phases. In other words, depleting his entire health bar for the first time does not mean you have defeated him... The battle will continue, and it will become even more challenging.

First of all, remember that it is important to reach Chronos as strong as possible, with plenty of Boons, activated Arcana Cards, a large amount of maximum health and at least a couple of Death Defiances to give yourself a chance of surviving the battle.

Also, while making your way through the chambers of Tartarus toward Chronos, remember that from your second journey onward you can enter a special chamber, marked by a pair of golden hands, where you will find the god Hades. Melinoë's father can offer you a particularly useful Boon for the battle against Chronos, so it is always worthwhile paying him a visit on your way to the boss.

How to defeat Chronos

With all of that out of the way, let us give you some useful tips for defeating Chronos during both phases of the battle:

• Note: Bear in mind that you cannot pause the game during the battle against Chronos. However, attempting to do so at least once will unlock the Incantation called "Power to Pause and Reflect," which can disable this special ability of the Titan.

Tips for Chronos's Phase 1

Phase 1 of the battle against Chronos takes place in the House of Hades. Here, the boss attacks with his scythe, using a series of moves that cover a large area. He can also summon minions to assist him and create time domes capable of freezing you in place.

Below, we take you through his main attacks during this phase:

• Chronos charges his scythe before quickly swinging it in a clockwise circle around himself.
• Chronos protects himself inside a shield and summons numerous time spheres that rotate around him.
• Chronos creates a large time dome and teleports to another location.
• Chronos spins his scythe and creates a current of air that pulls you toward it. Dash in the opposite direction to avoid taking damage. He finishes the move with a straight-line sweep.

• Chronos creates time spheres around himself that rotate like a personal shield. You can destroy them with attacks or wait for them to disappear.
• Chronos lunges toward you while floating, leaving behind time rifts that subsequently explode.
• Chronos slices through the air in front of him with his scythe, leaving behind time rifts that explode shortly afterward.

During this first phase against Chronos, a good strategy is to keep your distance and attack the Titan from afar, at least initially. This will allow you to study his attacks and gradually become familiar with them. However, you will need to constantly watch out for his scythe when he swings it and for the trails it leaves behind, as these explode shortly after appearing. Always move away from them if they are nearby.

Chronos is fast and moves around frequently, and he can also slow you down if you get caught inside his time domes. It is therefore advisable to attack and retreat repeatedly. Do not get greedy; deal damage a little at a time. If you decide to fight him at close range, try not to chain together more than two or three attacks, as it is very easy to get hit.

You should also remember to get rid of Chronos's minions whenever they appear. The last thing you want is for them to get in your way. The same applies to the banners that Chronos can raise around the arena. You need the battle to remain one-on-one for as much of the encounter as possible, as this boss demands your full attention.

Tips for Chronos's Phase 2

Phase 2 of the battle against Chronos takes place in a circular arena resembling a clock and begins immediately after you deplete his first health bar. The boss retains several of the scythe attacks you saw during the previous phase, but he also gains some new moves. Several of these are extremely dangerous, as they can deal massive damage and remove hundreds of health points with a single blow, killing you instantly if you fail to dodge in time or do not have any Death Defiances left.

To help you, let us go over Chronos's different attacks during this phase:

• Chronos raises his scythe and the entire arena goes dark except for one of the numbers on the clock face. You must move to that number immediately! The rest of the arena will be hit by a massively damaging attack.

• Chronos creates numerous time domes that freeze you if you step inside them. Find a safe area, remain there and attack him from a distance if possible.
• Chronos slows down time, causing you to move much more slowly for a few moments.
• A golden circle begins closing in from the outside of the clock toward its center. You must dash through the ring to avoid taking damage.

• One or more clock hands appear on the arena floor and begin moving clockwise. Try to avoid them or dash through them when they get close.
• Chronos creates 12 clock hands, one at each hour on the floor, and causes them to erupt in flames. Stand between two of them to avoid taking damage.
• Chronos moves to the center of the arena and creates dozens of time spheres that rotate around him.
• Chronos summons two dark areas in the arena, one in the center and another around the outer edge. You must stand in the area between them that has not gone dark to survive, as the other areas will explode and deal massive damage after a moment.

Bear in mind that the most important thing during this second phase is to dodge the aforementioned attacks that can kill you in a single hit. Carefully plan your movements at all times and do not panic. During this phase, it is better to dodge frequently and attack sparingly; prioritize avoiding damage over attacking above all else.

You need to study Chronos's moves carefully and anticipate his massively damaging attacks. The first time you reach this phase, you may feel overwhelmed or fail to understand why you died if you rush toward Chronos without paying attention to your surroundings. Spend a few moments moving around and observing how he attacks so you can master the encounter.

Ultimately, defeating him simply comes down to successfully dodging his many attacks and being strong enough after the long journey required to reach him. Remember that Boons that make you faster or give you a chance to dodge attacks can be particularly helpful during this battle. Be patient and do not become discouraged if things do not go well on your first attempt. You may need several tries to become familiar with the fight's mechanics and finally defeat him.

Reward for defeating Chronos

Each time you defeat Chronos, you will receive one Zodiac Sand as a reward. This Reagent is used in Incantations related to doom and decay, including two of the Incantations required to unlock the adventure's true ending.
