Hades 2: How to Unlock the Book of Shadows and What It Does

Hades 2 is absolutely packed with characters and enemies, much like the original game from Supergiant Games. Because of this, especially if you played the first game, you may spend your first few minutes wishing you had an encyclopedia or codex containing all the game's information.

Fortunately, the Book of Shadows serves precisely this purpose. In this section of our guide, we explain how to unlock it.

How do you unlock the Book of Shadows?

You can easily unlock the Book of Shadows in Hades 2 once you meet the following requirement during your playthrough:

• You must progress through the story and fight Headmistress Hecate at least three times.
• Bear in mind that simply fighting the boss is not enough: you must defeat her a total of three times.
• After defeating Hecate for the third time, the Headmistress will give you the Book of Shadows.

And that is all there is to it. As you can see, there is no real mystery involved. The book is very easy to obtain, and it should not take you long to unlock it.

What does the Book of Shadows do?

Much like the Codex in the original Hades, the Book of Shadows in Hades 2 is a type of encyclopedia that records all the important information about the characters, enemies, weapons and notable locations you encounter throughout your adventure.

For example, the book allows you to browse a complete bestiary of every enemy you have encountered, including the number of times you have defeated each one. The more enemies you defeat, the more entries you will unlock and the more details you will discover about them.

As for the game's characters, once you have performed a specific Incantation, you will also be able to keep track of your relationship level, the number of gifts you have given them and how many hearts you have earned with each one.
