Following the long-awaited release of version 1.0 of Hades 2 and the end of the game's Early Access period, Supergiant's community can finally unlock the adventure's true ending. If you have reached this section of our guide, you probably want to know exactly what you need to do to reach the credits or how to defeat both Chronos and Typhon for good. Don't worry, as we will explain all the steps and requirements you need to meet below.
To begin the series of "quests" leading to the true ending of Hades 2, you must progress far enough through the game and complete a number of steps. Below, we will walk you through each one:
The first step is to face Chronos for the first time in the Underworld. After defeating him, you will discover that Chronos does not die permanently. In fact, he can return to life night after night to face you again.
However, after defeating Chronos for the first time, you will learn the Cauldron Incantation called "Dissolution of Time". This Incantation can remove Chronos's ability to reconstitute himself night after night. However, you will still need to meet several more requirements before you can perform it...
To perform this Incantation, you will need to obtain 5 Zodiac Sand—the item received each time you defeat Chronos—as well as 1 Entropy, a special item that can only be obtained after defeating Typhon for good. However, doing so will take quite some time.
The second major step is to unlock access to the surface. You can find full details on how to overcome the curse in the attached link. The surface features its own Regions and Guardians, the last of which is the fearsome Typhon, who awaits at the Summit of Mount Olympus.
You will first need to defeat Typhon at least twice. Like every other enemy, he returns to life after each night. After defeating him twice and returning to the Crossroads, Headmistress Hecate will give you the new "Disintegration of Monstrosity" Incantation. This Incantation allows you to defeat Typhon permanently.
To perform it, you need 1 Zodiac Sand—which you should already have—4 Void Lens—the item dropped by Typhon each time you defeat him—and 1 Gigaros. This means you will have to face Typhon a few more times... But what exactly is Gigaros, and how do you obtain it? We explain everything in the next step.
Gigaros is Hades's spear and the weapon that can permanently kill Typhon. However, you should bear in mind that it is not a conventional weapon that you can wield like the Nocturnal Arms. Instead, it is considered a Reagent stored in your inventory. So, how do you obtain it?
Basically, by defeating Chronos at least 6 times. Each time you defeat the Titan of Time, you can enter a chamber inside the House of Hades. In this room—which will look familiar if you played the first Hades—you can use the bed to dream and then pass through the mirror to find someone waiting on the other side... Zagreus!, the Prince of the Underworld and Melinoë's brother.
Whenever you speak to Zagreus at the end of the night, you do not have much time to talk, since Melinoë must return to the Crossroads before Chronos recovers. This is why you need to defeat Chronos repeatedly, giving Melinoë enough time to come up with a plan alongside Zagreus to stop the Titan.
After several nights, the siblings eventually decide to use Gigaros as part of their plan. As mentioned above, after defeating Chronos for the sixth time, you will find the Gigaros spear lying on the floor beside the bed when you enter the chamber in the House. Pick it up, and once you return to the Crossroads you will be able to perform the "Disintegration of Monstrosity" Incantation, provided you have also defeated Typhon at least 4 times to obtain the 4 Void Lens mentioned earlier.
After performing the "Disintegration of Monstrosity" Incantation, you must return to the surface once more. Fight Typhon as usual, but this time, when the battle ends, Melinoë will be able to use Gigaros to eradicate the beast once and for all.
This time, you will receive 1 Entropy as a reward, in addition to 1 Void Lens. You will now be ready to perform the "Dissolution of Time" Incantation. Complete it at the Cauldron and then venture into the Underworld once more to defeat Chronos.
The battle against the Titan unfolds as usual, but when Melinoë visits Zagreus through the mirror this time, she will perform a special ritual allowing her brother to pay Chronos a visit in his own time, putting an end once and for all to the conflict that has been unfolding between the main characters.
We will avoid giving you any more details so as not to spoil the ending, but this scene is followed by several dialogue sequences. You will eventually return to the Crossroads, but not before getting to watch the game's credits.
From this point onwards, you can continue playing as normal. In fact, there are still activities left to complete, such as finding the Fates, as you will now have begun the epilogue. Either way, you now know all the requirements for seeing the game's true ending.
