There are many important mechanics surrounding battles and moves in Pokémon Champions that you need to understand to battle successfully. One of the most interesting is terrain, which can affect the damage dealt and other properties of grounded Pokémon. In this section of our guide, we will explain how many types of terrain there are, how they work, and everything else you need to know so they do not catch you off guard during battle.

Terrain Types and Their Effects

Pokémon Champions features a total of four terrain types that can be activated during battle. These are their names and specific effects:

  • Grassy Terrain: Boosts the power of Grass-type moves by 30%. Restores 1/16 of each affected Pokémon's maximum HP at the end of every turn.
  • Misty Terrain: Halves the power of Dragon-type moves. Grants immunity to major status conditions and confusion.
  • Electric Terrain: Boosts the power of Electric-type moves by 30%. Prevents Pokémon from falling asleep.
  • Psychic Terrain: Boosts the power of Psychic-type moves by 30%. Grants immunity to priority moves.

Remember that terrain effects always last for five turns after being activated and only affect grounded Pokémon. Flying-type Pokémon and those with the Levitate Ability are therefore unaffected by terrain.

How to Activate and Remove Terrain

To activate any of the terrain types listed above, you must use a move that creates it. These moves share their names with their corresponding terrain types:

  • Grassy Terrain (Grass-type move)
  • Misty Terrain (Fairy-type move)
  • Electric Terrain (Electric-type move)
  • Psychic Terrain (Psychic-type move)

A handful of moves can also remove the current terrain effect immediately:

  • Defog (Flying-type move): Lowers the target's Evasion by one stage. Removes effects such as Reflect, Spikes, and Safeguard, as well as the active terrain.
  • Ice Spinner (Ice-type move): Removes the active terrain.
  • Steel Roller (Steel-type move): Removes the active terrain. The move fails if no terrain is active.

Alternatively, if you do not have access to any of these moves, you can simply wait for the terrain to disappear naturally after five turns.
