Landing critical hits in Pokémon battles is usually highly beneficial because, regardless of type matchups, these attacks deal 50% more damage to the opponent. This makes critical hits particularly valuable in Pokémon Champions, a game focused on the competitive side of the series' turn-based battles. In this section of our guide, we will explain how to increase your chances of landing critical hits. There are two main ways to do this without relying so heavily on luck, as explained below:

Equip the Scope Lens

The first tip for landing more critical hits in Pokémon Champions is to equip one of your Pokémon with the Scope Lens.

This classic item from the series raises the holder's critical-hit ratio by one stage. It can be purchased from the in-game shop right from the start for 1,000 Victory Points, just like other battle items.

Use Moves That Increase Your Critical-Hit Rate

Besides relying partly on luck or using the Scope Lens, Pokémon Champions features a number of moves that either always guarantee critical hits or increase the chances of successfully landing one.

If your Pokémon are able to use these kinds of moves, you may want to train them so they can learn them, if they do not already know them. The default chance of landing a critical hit is 1 in 24, or approximately 4.17%, but these moves can greatly improve the odds in your favor.

Moves That Guarantee Critical Hits

For example, the following attacks always guarantee a critical hit:

  • Storm Throw (Fighting-type move)
  • Flower Trick (Grass-type move)
  • Frost Breath (Ice-type move)

Moves That Increase Critical-Hit Rate

Several moves improve your chances of landing critical hits. Here is the full list:

  • Air Cutter (Flying): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Sky Attack (Flying): The user gains the Charging status on the turn this move is used, then attacks on the next turn. Has a 30% chance to make the target flinch. Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Dragon Cheer (Dragon): Gives allies the Critical-Hit Ratio +1 status. If they are Dragon type, they receive the Critical-Hit Ratio +2 status instead.
  • Focus Energy (Normal): The user gains the Critical-Hit Ratio +2 status.
  • Shadow Claw (Ghost): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Leaf Blade (Grass): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Crabhammer (Water): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Blaze Kick (Fire): Has a 10% chance to burn the target. Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Psycho Cut (Psychic): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Stone Edge (Rock): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Aqua Cutter (Water): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Cross Chop (Fighting): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Night Slash (Dark): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Drill Run (Ground): Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Triple Arrows (Fighting): Has a 50% chance to lower the target's Defense by one stage and a 30% chance to make it flinch. Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.
  • Cross Poison (Poison): Has a 10% chance to poison the target. Raises the user's critical-hit ratio by one stage for this attack.

Bear in mind that some of these are status moves. In those cases, they increase that Pokémon's critical-hit rate for the rest of the battle, provided you do not switch it out.
