Palworld is already the hottest game around and the first viral hit of 2024. With more than 4 million copies sold during its first weekend and a new concurrent player record on Steam, Pocketpair's game has enjoyed a better launch than anyone could have imagined—and, for now, it is only available on PC and Xbox. With this in mind, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch owners are probably already wondering whether they will eventually be able to enjoy the game on these platforms as well. Below, we explain everything currently known about the matter.
At the moment, all we know is that Palworld has been available since January 19 on PC through the Steam digital store, as well as on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles from day one. It is also included at no additional cost in the extensive Xbox Game Pass catalog for subscribers.
So far, its developers have only speculated about a possible PlayStation 5 version of Palworld, without offering any specific details. As seen on both the game's official Discord server and its Steam FAQ page, the team answers questions about a potential release on Sony's current-generation console with the following statement: "We have no plans for this at the moment, but will consider it during development!"
It is worth remembering that Palworld is currently an early access title, meaning that it is still in active development and has not yet reached its final version. The developers therefore still have months of work ahead of them to polish the game, so it is understandable that they do not yet know for certain whether it will be released on additional platforms.
That said, Palworld being an Xbox Game Pass exclusive from day one could explain why it was not initially released on Sony consoles. On the other hand, it would be strange for the game to eventually come to PS5 but not PS4, considering that it is playable on Xbox One.
However, absolutely nothing is known about a potential Nintendo Switch version. The Pocketpair team has not mentioned Nintendo's hybrid console in any of its announcements so far. Palworld uses Unreal Engine 5, which supports Switch, so imagining a port for the console would not be unreasonable. Even so, the team may instead have its sights set on the future Nintendo Switch 2, which has been the subject of so many rumors lately. For now, we will have to be patient and wait to see whether the developers decide to share more news on the matter.
