Raid bosses are a feature that has been available in Palworld since a free content update released in April 2024, allowing players to take on extremely powerful Pals in intense and challenging battles. These bosses should not be confused with Tower Bosses or Alpha Pal bosses, as they are something entirely different.
Since many players may have questions about how raids work, what you need to start one, the requirements for taking part, and the rewards they offer, we have put together this section of our guide covering everything you need to know about them.
Raid boss battles in Palworld can be started by following a specific series of steps. First of all, however, you should know that these raids do not take place in any particular location in the world, nor do they occur at certain times of day or on specific dates. In other words, raids are NOT limited-time events scheduled by the developers. Instead, they are an activity that players can start whenever they want after meeting certain conditions.
You will need several things before you can start a raid, as listed below:
Let's use the first raid boss added to Palworld, Bellanoir, as an example. To start a Bellanoir raid, players must build a Summoning Altar and first collect 4 Bellanoir's Slab Fragments.
These Slab Fragments are usually obtained randomly from chests found at the end of dungeons or inside Wildlife Sanctuaries. If you search high-level dungeons, such as those in the snowy northern regions of the map, you will probably find Epic Bellanoir Libero's Slab Fragments. These can be used to summon the boss's more powerful variant. Lower-level dungeons, such as those in the central grasslands, contain the "regular" fragments instead. Either way, once you have collected enough fragments, return to your base and combine them at a Production Assembly Line to create the corresponding Bellanoir's Slab. You can then use it at a Summoning Altar to start a raid against this Pal.
You will need to repeat this same process whenever you want to start another raid. Easy enough to understand, right? There really isn't much more to it. Just make sure you meet the requirements explained above.
We have already explained how to start raids in Palworld, but you may still be wondering how they work exactly. Raid battles are actually not too different from fighting any other Pal boss in the open world, although there are several crucial details you should know before attempting one for the first time.
It is worth emphasizing that raids take place inside the boundaries of your base. The game will warn you about this before you start a raid with a warning message explaining that the boss could kill all your Pals and even destroy every structure at your base. This is not an exaggeration and should not be taken lightly. You can genuinely lose your entire base if the boss destroys your Palbox.
For this reason, it is highly advisable to build a separate base specifically for raids—ideally one that you would not mind losing and that is not your main base. That way, it will not be a complete disaster if the boss destroys it. Similarly, protecting your base's Palbox by fortifying it with structures built around it is another useful strategy.
In any case, remember that you can also play raids with friends and other online players, which will undoubtedly give you a much better chance of winning these battles.
The main reward for successfully defeating a raid boss in Palworld is an Egg containing the boss Pal. By incubating this Egg at your base, you can add that Pal to your collection and register it in the Paldeck. Since raid bosses cannot be captured during battle, this is how you obtain the Pal you worked so hard to defeat.
In addition to the Pal Egg, completing a raid will also reward you with various materials, experience points for you and the Pals that took part in the battle, and other potential reward drops, such as Ancient Civilization Cores, Training Crystals, fruits, or armor.
