Exploring the vast map of Palworld on foot can be fun, but traveling while riding one of the game's Pals is even more exciting and convenient. Some creatures can be used as mounts to cross mountains and plains by land, travel over water, or fly quickly through the skies, saving you a great deal of time.
If you have just started playing, you are probably wondering how to ride Pals. Not every Pal can be mounted, and even those that can require you to meet certain requirements first. In this section of our guide, we will explain everything you need to know so you don't miss a thing.
You essentially need two things to ride a Pal. First, you must have captured a Pal whose Partner Skill allows it to be used as a mount. Second, you need to craft a saddle for that Pal before you can ride it.
To make this easier to understand, let's use Melpaca as an example. It is one of the first Pals you can encounter that can be used as a ground mount, and you can find its locations at the attached link. Once you have caught a Melpaca, you can summon it from its Sphere, but you will notice that you cannot simply climb onto it straight away.
This is because you have not yet unlocked its saddle, a specific item the Pal needs before you can ride on its back. You can see that this item is required by opening the Pal's data page from a Palbox, as shown in the image above.
To craft Melpaca's saddle, you first need to build a Pal Gear Workbench at your base. Its recipe can be unlocked from the Technology menu for 2 Technology Points once your character has reached at least level 6. You will need the following resources to build it:
After building the workbench, you must also unlock the recipe for Melpaca's saddle. This particular recipe can be found in the level 7 section of the Technology menu. Keep in mind that the saddle recipe can only be purchased after you have captured at least one Melpaca. Otherwise, it will appear as an unknown item marked with a question mark.
After purchasing the saddle recipe, go to the workbench and craft it using the following resources:
Once it has been crafted, you will not need to do anything else. Simply summon your Melpaca from its Sphere and approach it to see an interaction prompt that allows you to mount it. On PC, the default key is F.
While riding a Pal, you can travel around the world more quickly and perform certain powerful special attacks. Naturally, everything explained above also applies to every other Pal mount. In other words, you will always need to capture the Pal and then craft its saddle before you can use it as a mount, so don't forget.
As mentioned above, not every Pal in Palworld can be used as a mount. Only Pals with the appropriate Partner Skill can be ridden. There are mounts for traveling by land, sea, and air.
Below, you will find lists of every Pal that can be used as a mount as of version 1.0, along with the levels at which their riding gear can be unlocked. Each list is ordered from fastest to slowest:
