Like Father, Like Son is the third mission in the Prologue of The Blood of Dawnwalker's story. It begins automatically at the end of Withering Away, regardless of the choice you make at the end. As usual, throughout this walkthrough we'll avoid as many spoilers as possible while giving you all the tips and directions you need to make sure you don't miss anything along the way. For this playthrough in particular, we'll also be following the optimal route to see as many endings as possible in a single playthrough, saving you the trouble of starting over unnecessarily.

Follow Pieter

Follow Pieter up the path for a while. There's nothing particularly important to worry about along the way. Once you reach the training area at the top, a cutscene will begin.

Train with Pieter

This is where the advanced combat tutorial begins. In addition to directional blocking, you'll need to learn how to recognise unblockable attacks, which are marked by a red skull icon. These attacks must be dodged, regardless of which direction you evade.

Technically, you can lose the fight and still progress the story, but we strongly recommend repeating the encounter until you're comfortable enough with the combat system to beat him. You'll need those fundamentals later on, especially if you're playing on Duelist, the difficulty this guide is designed around.

After the fight, you'll have a conversation with Pieter. Your first two answers don't matter, but it's important to choose "See you then" for the third response. Choosing to wait with Pieter instead will advance time and cause you to lose several time segments that we're going to put to good use before starting the next main mission.

You can now complete the following side quests before moving on. Keep in mind that you have a total of 4 daytime segments available to spend before the story forces you to continue. Since you won't be able to complete everything, we recommend prioritising the following quests, as they offer some of the best experience and rewards for the time invested:

  • Dead Drop (doesn't consume time).
  • Live Bait (consumes 1 or 2 time segments depending on your choices).
  • Disturbed (consumes 1 or 2 time segments depending on your choices).
  • Blasphemy (consumes 1 time segment).
  • Enter Not (doesn't consume time).
  • If a Tree Falls in a Forest... (doesn't consume time).

You should then have enough time to start, but not necessarily finish, one of the following side quests. Once you're close to running out of time, a cutscene will trigger and force you to continue with the main story.

We recommend starting Deep Down. The reason is simple: you can obtain a useful piece of armour and a weapon while exploring its dungeon, even if you don't manage to complete the quest before the story moves forward:

  • Someone Needs a Lesson (250 XP).
  • On the Run (250 XP, 50 Denarii).
  • Deep Down (250 XP, 25 Denarii, Mireleaf Bracers, Undead Warrior's Sword and plenty of valuables you can sell).

Eventually, you'll run out of available time and a cutscene will automatically start Sacred Covenant.
