GTA 5 has no infinite-money cheat and no button combination, phone number or PC console command that adds cash. This is true on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Old guides may advertise unlimited underwater briefcases or cash-register loops, but those methods were tied to old versions, were patched or are too inconsistent to recommend.
The most reliable way to make a very large amount of money in GTA 5 Story Mode is to complete the main story, preserve the four optional Lester assassination missions until after the final heist, and then use their predictable effects on the stock market with Michael, Franklin and Trevor.
In this guide:
No. GTA 5 does not include a legitimate money cheat in Story Mode or GTA Online. The game's real cheat codes can affect health, weapons, vehicles, wanted level, movement and the world, but none of them increases a character's bank balance.
The closest Story Mode equivalent to an unlimited-money method is the combination of the final heist payout and Lester's stock-market missions. Used carefully, it can leave each protagonist with more money than is needed to buy every property, vehicle, weapon and upgrade available to them. It is not infinite, but it is reliable and does not depend on an obsolete exploit.
| Method | Best time | Potential | Repeatable? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main story and heist payouts | Throughout the campaign | High | No |
| Lester assassinations and stocks | Mostly after the final heist | Very high | No |
| High-value random events | Early and mid-game | Low to medium | Usually no |
| Nuclear Waste | After buying Sonar Collections Dock | $940,000 gross | No |
| Properties and property missions | Mid- and late-game | Varies greatly | Limited |
| Security vans and store robberies | Free roam | Low | Finite or irregular |
If your only objective is to become as rich as possible, avoid spending heavily on cars and expensive properties before the final sequence of investments. Every dollar preserved before those missions can produce a much larger return later.
Story missions and heists provide the capital that makes the later stock strategy worthwhile. The first assassination, The Hotel Assassination, is required to progress through the story. The remaining four assassination missions can be delayed.
Mission Replay does not provide a shortcut. Replaying an assassination from the menu uses a temporary state and does not carry new investment profits back into the main save.
| Mission | Buy before | Buy after selling the first stock | Market |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Hotel Assassination | Betta Pharmaceuticals (BET) | Bilkinton Research (BIL) | BET: BAWSAQ BIL: LCN |
| The Multi Target Assassination | Debonaire (DEB) | Redwood Cigarettes (RWC) | LCN |
| The Vice Assassination | Fruit (FRT) | Facade (FAC) | BAWSAQ |
| The Bus Assassination | Nothing | Vapid (VAP) | BAWSAQ |
| The Construction Assassination | GoldCoast (GCD) | Nothing | LCN |
Do not rely on a fixed number of hours or a guaranteed percentage. Returns differ between versions and can be affected by the exact moment at which the stock is bought or sold. After completing a mission, use a safehouse bed to advance time, check the portfolio and repeat while the return is still rising. Keep the pre-mission save until both the initial rise and any rival-company rebound are complete.
BAWSAQ is accessed from Story Mode but depends on connectivity to Rockstar's services. If it is unavailable, reconnect before starting a BAWSAQ-based assassination rather than completing the mission without the intended investment.
For the complete explanation of both exchanges, selling strategy and each mission, see our GTA 5 stock market and Lester investment guide.

Before the late-game stock strategy becomes available, story missions and heists are the main source of meaningful cash. Choosing suitable crew members matters: a more expensive specialist takes a larger percentage, while an inexperienced recruit can make mistakes that reduce the take.
Some random events unlock useful heist crew members. For example, helping Taliana Martinez during Crash Rescue makes her available as a driver. The immediate event does not pay much, but recruiting an effective crew member for a modest cut can improve a later heist result.
For the highest potential take from the final heist, choose the Obvious approach. A strong low-cost crew is Taliana Martinez as Driver 1, Karim Denz as Driver 2, Daryl Johns as one gunman and either Norm Richards or Hugh Welsh as the other. If Karim is still inexperienced, assign him to drive the train rather than a helicopter; an inexperienced helicopter pilot can lose half the take.
With that approach and no gold lost, the gross take is $201,600,000 and Michael, Franklin and Trevor can each receive up to $41,664,000. Those balances provide the capital for the four optional Lester investments.
Security Van random events generally contain a few thousand dollars. You can intercept the guard carrying the case or open the rear doors of the Securicar, but doing so normally attracts police attention. These events are useful early in the game, not a path to unlimited money.
Convenience stores can also be held up, and some cash registers can be shot to release additional cash. The payouts are small, and the method creates a Wanted Level. The old repeating Ammu-Nation register loop should not be treated as a reliable feature of current versions.
Races, Bail Bonds, Arms Trafficking, taxi work and other side activities provide extra spending money, but most have limited payouts or take too long to compete with story missions and investments. Complete them for progression, variety and, where applicable, 100% requirements rather than expecting them to fund every late-game purchase.
Michael's final Epsilon Program mission, Unknowing the Truth, can produce one of Story Mode's largest individual side-mission payouts. Instead of completing the delivery for Epsilon, betray the cult, escape with the money-filled Tailgater and lose the pursuers. The car contains $2,100,000.
This is a one-time late-stage reward at the end of a lengthy mission chain, and the preceding Epsilon tasks require time and donations. It is therefore valuable, but it is not an early-game farming method or an infinite source of cash.
After The Merryweather Heist, the Sonar Collections Dock becomes available for $250,000. Buying it provides access to a Submersible and the Trackify app used to find Nuclear Waste on the seabed.
This is a profitable one-time activity, not a repeatable source of infinite money. Trackify points toward the next barrel when you enter the Submersible, although the journey around the coast takes time.
For the purchase requirements and other businesses, see the complete GTA 5 properties guide.
A few named random events are much more valuable than an ordinary robbery. They are finite, and some depend on choosing the helpful outcome.
| Random event | What to do | Reward or benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Bicycle Thief City 1 | Recover Gray Nicholson's stolen bicycle in Rancho and return it. | $100,000 in Animal Ark shares, delivered later. |
| Altruist Cult Shootout | As Trevor, deliver four eligible random-event characters to the Altruist camp and survive the resulting shootout. | Four $25,000 briefcases: $100,000 total. |
| Burial | Rescue Antonia Bottino north of Paleto Bay and drive her to her contact. | $60,000, sent after the event. |
| Deal Gone Wrong | Find the aftermath of the deal in Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness and survive the attack. | $25,000. |
| Countryside Robbery | Collect both dropped cases during the Route 68 robbery event. | Up to $10,000. |
| Hitch Lift 1 | Get Timm to Los Santos International Airport before his deadline. | A cash tip and a time-limited tip about Tinkle stock. |
| Crash Rescue | Save Taliana Martinez and take her to Sandy Shores. | Unlocks Taliana as a heist driver. |
The $100,000 bicycle reward belongs specifically to Bicycle Thief City 1. Returning a different stolen bicycle does not produce the same shares. Likewise, the woman rescued during Burial is Antonia Bottino, the daughter of Sammy Bottino; she should not be described as "Sonny's daughter."
Properties can provide weekly income, management missions or useful perks, but most are not quick-money investments. Some take dozens or hundreds of in-game weeks to recover their purchase price, and missed management missions can temporarily reduce their income.
Buy a property because its activity or benefit is useful to you, not because every business is guaranteed to generate a fast profit. Sonar Collections Dock is unusual because the Nuclear Waste rewards can recover its price and provide a clear one-time surplus.
No. Los Santos Customs does not let Michael, Franklin or Trevor sell ordinary stolen cars in GTA 5 Story Mode. Selling eligible street vehicles for cash is a GTA Online mechanic, with its own restrictions and values.
Our GTA 5 Story Mode and GTA Online car list labels the mode, price, edition and acquisition method of each included vehicle.
Several methods repeatedly copied by old GTA 5 guides should no longer be presented as dependable ways to earn cash.
| Old claim | What players should know |
|---|---|
| Repeated underwater briefcase | The character-switch respawn loop is a historical exploit associated with old, unpatched releases. Hidden packages should be treated as finite pickups on current versions. |
| Ammu-Nation register loop | This old cash-register exploit is inconsistent or patched and is not a reliable current method. |
| Destroy FlyUS planes to raise Air Emu | Free-roam destruction is not a dependable way to control stock prices. Use the scripted Lester opportunities instead. |
| Sell stolen cars in Story Mode | Vehicle selling belongs to GTA Online; ordinary Story Mode vehicles cannot be sold at Los Santos Customs. |
| Buy any property for easy profit | Returns vary enormously, and many properties take a very long time to repay their cost. |
| Replay missions for repeated payouts | Mission Replay does not permanently add the replayed investment results or payouts to the main save. |
Do not plan around them respawning. Some Story Mode versions and save states include finite underwater hidden packages, but the famous technique of collecting a case, switching character and immediately returning to make it reappear comes from early releases. It is not a universal current feature across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA Online has its own cash balance, heists, businesses, missions, property system and vehicle-selling rules. Story Mode money cannot be transferred to an Online character, and the Lester assassination investments do not function as an Online money strategy.
There is no legitimate infinite-money code in GTA Online. Current earnings depend on owned businesses, active bonuses, heists and weekly events, so they belong in a separately maintained GTA Online guide.
No. There is no button combination, phone number or PC console command that gives the player money.
For maximum late-game wealth, finish the story, retain the four optional Lester assassinations until after the final heist and invest with all three protagonists. Earlier in the game, missions, heists and selected random events provide the most useful capital.
Not through a current legitimate feature. Historical glitches depended on specific old versions. The heist-and-stock strategy can generate an enormous but finite balance.
No. Mission Replay does not carry the resulting investments or payouts into the main Story Mode save.
BAWSAQ is opened from Story Mode but depends on access to Rockstar's online services. If the exchange is unavailable, reconnect before undertaking a mission that requires a BAWSAQ investment.
Usually not for fast cash. Some provide useful perks, missions or collectible income, while many require a long time to recover their purchase price.
The practical Story Mode balance limit is $2,147,483,647 per protagonist. A careful final-heist and Lester investment strategy can approach that limit, although actual returns vary.
