The Hidden Blade is the most iconic weapon wielded by the Assassins in the Assassin's Creed series. While it could be easily exploited in combat in the original game, its use has been considerably restricted in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced so that fights make a little more sense and you can't simply stand there blocking attacks while exposing your wrists to enemy cutlasses.
The main difference compared to the original game is that the Hidden Blade is no longer a selectable weapon in combat. Edward will instead fight using his dual swords and the various tools he unlocks as he progresses, such as pistols. However, you can't fight directly with the Hidden Blades, as they are now reserved for takedowns and special actions.
In this remake, the Hidden Blade is used to perform assassinations and takedowns on unaware or staggered enemies. You can use it whenever the Assassinate or Double Assassination prompt appears—the latter is available when two enemies haven't noticed Edward and are standing close enough together. It can also be used after completely draining an enemy's Defense Bar by parrying enough attacks or forcing them to block enough of your own, as well as against enemies affected by Smoke Bombs. As always, it can also be used from hiding spots against enemies who pass close to piles of leaves, small hiding places or ledges Edward is hanging from.
