AC Black Flag Resynced: How to Parry & Perfect Dodge

The combat in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced features several changes compared to the original Black Flag. This includes a few minor changes to the defensive mechanics that you should learn to avoid running into trouble during fights.

How to parry, dodge, perfect dodge, and counterattack

You can identify enemy attacks in Resynced by the color of the attack indicator. Every attack and source of damage from an enemy, except ranged attacks, displays one of the following colors:

• Blue: these attacks can be parried or avoided with a Perfect Dodge. Most regular enemies use them.
• Red: these attacks cannot be parried and must be dodged. They are used by enemies wielding two-handed weapons and by wild animals.
• White: these attacks cannot be parried and must also be dodged. You will only see them in specific situations, such as underwater shark attacks.

That should be all you need to know. If you perform a Perfect Parry to a blue attack, the enemy will often be left vulnerable to an instant kill. If you perform a perfect dodge against a red or blue attack—you will know you have pulled it off thanks to a clear visual effect—pressing the attack button will trigger a powerful counterattack that deals more damage than usual. Bear in mind that perfect dodges should not be performed toward the enemy, but to either side. Attempting a perfect dodge toward an enemy may cause them to grab you and throw you to the ground, so always dodge sideways.
