Pioneer ha creado un disco Blu Ray con 16 capas, al parecer sin las complicaciones que suele dar esta tecnología (a más capas, más complicada la lectura). La buena noticia es que los lectores actuales podrán leer estos discos.

Pioneer has revealed that they have developed a Blu-ray disc that can store 400GB of data on 16 layers. While these super Blu-ray discs are nothing new, Pioneer claims that the specs for the laser remain unchanged compared to that of a typical Blu-ray player, meaning these discs would technically work in existing Blu-ray players.

There has always been difficulty with multilayer discs as the data on each layer can "bleed" onto other layers when being read. Apparently, Pioneer has used their expertise with the DVD format to solve that issue.

Little else is known about these discs, though more information is expected next week at the Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 2008, which is being held on the 13 July in Hawaii.

Algunas fuentes afirman que en las oficinas de Kojima Productions siguen esperando a tecnología con 54 capas para lanzar su próximo juego, pero no se ha confirmado :-P
