The 4v4 team-based fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls launched with a total of 20 playable characters—although more will be added through DLC in the future—who leap from the pages of Marvel comics to deliver spectacular interactive battles with their own abilities, unique moves, synergies, and strategies.

In this section of our guide, we show you the complete character roster in Arc System Works' title, so you know which fighters are available in offline and multiplayer modes, what type of fighter each one is, and their general characteristics. Bear in mind that the characters are grouped into narrative teams or factions, but with the exception of Episode Mode, you can mix and match them however you like.

The characters are listed according to their position on the game's character-selection roster:

Captain America

Captain America is one of the best-known characters in the Marvel universe and, in this case, the leader—although Tony Stark might disagree—of the Fighting Avengers. Steve Rogers is one of the most balanced and accessible characters in the game. He is highly versatile and has quick counterattacks with his shield. He can also throw it and, with a little practice, make it ricochet to catch unsuspecting opponents who think you have already gotten rid of your weapon. An ideal choice for beginners.

Iron Man

Tony Stark is a genius through and through. He dons his Mark 782 armor to face this new threat as a member of the Fighting Avengers. Iron Man is easy to pick up but difficult to master. This is because his true potential lies in his ranged attacks, which can be difficult to connect effectively, as well as his aerial maneuverability. His special flight ability also allows him to remain airborne, but unless you master it, you will be little more than a sitting duck waiting to be knocked down.

Black Panther

Shuri, the current Black Panther of the MCU, is also a member of the Fighting Avengers. Her specialty is moving quickly to unleash fast attacks. Shuri has the unique Beast Blessing gauge, which fills when certain moves are used and can power up several of her special attacks.

Hulk

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Hulk gallery artwork

Bruce Banner at his angriest. Hulk is the final member of the Fighting Avengers, completing the team of heroes known as Earth's foremost defenders. Hulk has several armored moves that can make him extremely difficult to stop in experienced hands. He also has a special gauge called Gamma Level. Hulk can build up gamma energy to increase the power of his attacks and even alter his Super Skill and Ultimate Skill, changing both their animations and damage.

Storm

Storm, the alias of Ororo Munroe, is an Omega-level mutant and the leader of the Unbreakable X-Men. Storm is a fairly complex character who will not be particularly useful unless you learn how to control her unique abilities. The main difficulty with Storm is that Tempest affects the rest of her abilities, enabling quick approaches, delaying the moment when attacks connect, and much more. Tempest can be used at any time—provided you have some Tempest charge remaining—even in the middle of another attack. As we said, she is difficult to master, but unpredictable at any range.

Magik

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Magik gallery artwork

Magik is considered one of the best characters in Tōkon, and with good reason. This member of the Unbreakable X-Men is one of the most dangerous close-range fighters in the game. Her massive sword moves much faster than you might expect, and she can instantly teleport toward an opponent to begin a potentially lethal combo. As if that were not enough, she is relatively easy to use, even for inexperienced players. However, when you see an expert controlling her, you will discover that her portals have enormous potential, allowing her to fire projectiles through them or even use her Super and Ultimate from a portal. If all that were not enough, Magik has a temporary transformation into the Queen of Limbo, making some of her attacks even more powerful. She is a fearsome character under any circumstances.

Wolverine

Wolverine, known to his friends as Logan and to very few as James Howlett—his real name—is another member of the Unbreakable X-Men. He is a character designed specifically for VERY close-range combat. Several of his attacks have extremely fast start-up, and he also has the Berserker Rage ability. This is not a unique gauge like those used by other characters, but rather a special move that can be chained into more powerful attacks to create enhanced combos.

Danger

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Danger gallery artwork

Danger is the physical manifestation of the Danger Room where the X-Men train. Controlled by the room's AI, she has several tools at her disposal for dealing with threats. She is a long-range character who is difficult to master, as fighting with her requires you to plan your moves carefully and prevent your opponent from closing the distance. She is the final member of the Unbreakable X-Men.

Spider-Man

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Spider-Man gallery artwork

Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, steps into the arena as the leader of the Amazing Guardians. He is a very well-balanced character who can be used effectively by both beginners and advanced players. He has excellent mobility, and several of his web-based moves change depending on the directional input you use, making Spider-Man an unpredictable opponent.

Ms. Marvel

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Ms. Marvel gallery artwork

Ms. Marvel, a member of the Amazing Guardians, is a unique character for players who want to catch opponents by surprise at mid-range using Kamala's stretching abilities. Although she is less effective in aerial combat, on the ground she can reach and close in on opponents or even grab them while they are trying to approach. She is relatively difficult to master, but extremely annoying to fight against.

Star-Lord

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Star-Lord gallery artwork

Peter Quill, who prefers to go by the name Star-Lord, is another member of the Amazing Guardians. He is one of those difficult-to-master characters who excels in aerial and ranged combat. His blasters can change their elemental properties to apply different effects. You will need to spend plenty of time training with him if you want to do more than simply fire his weapons.

Peni Parker

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Peni Parker gallery artwork

Peni Parker is one of the many Spider-Man variants from across the Multiverse. In our opinion, she is one of the most difficult characters to control because her true potential lies in her special drone-deploying ability, which has a cooldown that forces you to keep your opponent at bay. She does have some advantages, such as moves involving walls and corners that can briefly disorient the opponent, but she is not the ideal choice if you have only just started playing and want to use one of the Amazing Guardians.

Ghost Rider

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Ghost Rider gallery artwork

The Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider leads the Samurai Outriders in Episode Mode. He is specifically designed for long-range combat, but we do not recommend using him unless you have trained extensively. The reason is that his best attacks fill his unique Vengeance gauge. When it is almost full, you deal tremendous damage, but if it fills completely, you will be left in a highly vulnerable state. High risk, high potential.

Blade

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Blade gallery artwork

Blade—who, as everyone knows, is the only Blade there is and the only Blade there will ever be—is one of the best characters in the game and another member of the Samurai Outriders. He excels at any range, although he has the disadvantage of needing to reload after using his pistol attacks three times. He has all the tools required to counter enemy attacks at close, medium, and long range. Naturally, this versatility requires plenty of practice to use effectively, but he is worth the effort.

Deadpool

Hi! I'm Deadpool. You may know me from my magnificent movies, and here I'm another member of the Samurai Outriders—a team of great heroes, not a nightclub. Don't even think about mentioning X-Men Origins: Wolverine; you already know what I did about that. Anyway, it will take you quite a while to understand how my attacks work: directional inputs change them completely, and if I've pulled out one of my toys, such as a grenade, I might throw it later—or perhaps I'll get a defective one and use it to give you an electrified punch. I also have several secret commands and never stop making references to other fighting games. Don't you dare ignore me just because my fighting style is difficult to master, or I'll pay you a visit.

Loki

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Loki gallery artwork

Loki is the final member of the Samurai Outriders. The Jotun who eventually became part of Asgard's royal family is an extremely technical character who requires plenty of practice if you do not want to be crushed almost immediately. Essentially, he is an "annoying" character who changes direction and freezes opponents in the middle of his attacks to exploit their vulnerabilities.

Doctor Doom

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Doctor Doom gallery artwork

Doctor Doom is the leader of the Knights of Doom. He is easily one of the best characters in the game, excels at any range, and has numerous options for extending combos into aerial attacks capable of removing more than a third of an opponent's health bar. He also has combos that end with grabs that slam the enemy into the ground, which can then be chained into one of the aerial combos mentioned above. Although mastering all of this takes some practice, he is a great choice if fighting games are not your specialty. As if that were not enough, he has several ways to block projectiles and can even stop opponents from advancing by using magic circles. A truly fearsome opponent.

Magneto

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Magneto gallery artwork

Magneto is another of the game's few Omega-level mutants and a member of the Knights of Doom. He is another technical character who requires a certain amount of setup to perform at his full potential in combat. Several of his attacks create floating pieces of metal debris, which can be used to enhance his magnetic attacks.

Green Goblin

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Green Goblin gallery artwork

The Green Goblin is one of Spider-Man's best-known enemies and another member of the Knights of Doom. Once again, we have a technical character, which means that he requires practice if you want to use him to his full potential. He has several tools at his disposal, including his glider, which he can summon at any time to alter the range and speed of several of his special attacks. A nightmare in the hands of someone who has mastered him.

Carnage

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls - Characters, Carnage gallery artwork

Carnage is one of the symbiotes from Spider-Man's corner of the Marvel universe and the final member of the Knights of Doom. He is a close-range character with a somewhat technical side: several of his attacks, including some armored moves, apply the Necrosis effect. This effect remains on the opponent for a limited time and allows you to finish combos with an additional explosion that damages the enemy.
