Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated releases in video game history, if not the most anticipated of all. So it is no surprise that many players who are out of the loop, or simply eager to play it, are still wondering whether it will also come to PS4 and Xbox One. On Rockstar’s official support page, in the article about GTA 6 platforms and editions, we can see that there is no mention at all of PS4 or Xbox One, and that the game is confirmed to be available at launch only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In addition, through a PlayStation support page, Sony also confirms in its FAQ that GTA 6 will only be playable on PlayStation 5, which means a PS4 version is ruled out. Obviously, the same can be applied to a possible Xbox One version, Microsoft’s previous-generation console.
Either way, beyond the official answers shown above, it makes sense that GTA 6 will not be released on PS4 or Xbox One. This is a game being developed with cutting-edge technology that those consoles simply cannot handle. We have to keep in mind how long PS4 and Xbox One have already been on the market, with more than a decade behind them, as well as the fact that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have already passed the halfway point of their own generation. Because of that, it is almost impossible to imagine GTA 6 running on their predecessors.
We do not know for sure, but Rockstar may have started developing GTA 6 in its very early stages for PS4 and Xbox One. In any case, that does not really change anything. During its long development, the game has been able to take advantage of the latest and most modern graphical improvements, and the footage and screenshots we have already seen are enough to suggest that this is a game we will never see on PS4 or Xbox One. So, if you are planning to enjoy it from day one and you still do not have a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, you should probably start saving up for one.
