Grand Theft Auto 6 will finally launch on November 19, 2026, but based on what we currently know, it will only be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at release. Still, most of us expect such a highly anticipated game to eventually make its way to other platforms, including PC. But what about a possible Nintendo Switch 2 port? Could it actually happen? Might Rockstar’s sandbox game eventually receive a dedicated version for Nintendo’s hybrid console? Below, we’ve rounded up all the official information currently available on the subject.
Although most Rockstar Games titles have historically skipped Nintendo consoles, this is a trend that has begun to change in recent years. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy and Red Dead Redemption, for example, both received Switch versions. Combined with the enormous hype surrounding GTA 6, this has led many players to wonder whether the game could eventually come to Switch 2.
In fact, a Switch 2 version of GTA 6 doesn’t sound as far-fetched as it might initially seem, especially when we consider several reports and sources pointing in that direction. To begin with, according to a comment made in November 2025 by well-known insider NateTheHate2 on X, Rockstar’s teams may have been experimenting with the Switch 2 hardware to see whether GTA 6 could be released on the platform.
As Nate rightly pointed out, "experimenting doesn’t mean it’s ‘in development’", but it would still represent a significant step forward. This information was also backed up and expanded upon at the time by another prominent insider, Nash Weedle, who claimed that Rockstar had overcome certain "technical hurdles" and brought in Switch 2 porting specialists to work on this version of the game.

Nash has had a somewhat mixed track record, but for anyone who remains skeptical, it’s worth pointing out that these leaks do make sense when considered alongside another interesting detail. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, commented a few months before the Switch 2 launched that he now viewed Nintendo consoles as potentially suitable for all kinds of audiences, whereas he believed they had previously been aimed more at younger players.
Zelnick used the Switch release of Civilization 7 as an example and said the company expected its game catalog to be "fully compatible with Switch 2". That word "fully" naturally makes us wonder whether Take-Two has a genuine intention to bring GTA 6 to Switch 2, even though Zelnick hasn’t specifically commented on the game itself. It would certainly make sense if the company wants to maximize the game’s revenue and reach a wider audience that doesn’t own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
On top of all that, there is another insider, Shpeshal Nick, who is known for correctly reporting release dates and unannounced projects. In June 2026, he said on X that he hadn’t heard anything confirming that GTA 6 was coming to Switch 2, but claimed to know firsthand that Nintendo was "working with Rockstar and Take-Two to try to make it happen".

Ultimately, although there is still no official announcement and we recommend taking insider claims with a grain of salt, the situation does give us some reason to hope that GTA 6 could eventually appear on Switch 2. It’s also worth remembering that Nintendo’s console has theoretical performance that isn’t too far removed from the Xbox Series S. If Rockstar has managed to get GTA 6 running on Microsoft’s console, it may also be able to bring the game to Switch 2.
Several other major and technically ambitious current-generation games, featuring demanding graphics or enormous worlds, have already been adapted for Nintendo’s hybrid console, including Resident Evil Requiem, Elden Ring, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. For now, though, we’ll just have to wait and see whether GTA 6 eventually joins that list.
