As we get closer to the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the things fans are most eager to discover is what its full map will look like, a key element of Rockstar Games’ open-world titles. However, as is usually the case, this is the kind of information players don’t get to see until the game finally launches, and the company hasn’t officially revealed it, at least for now.

Still, the GTA community is incredibly dedicated, so there are already plenty of fan-made recreations online that give us an idea of what the final map could look like. We’ll show you one of the most detailed examples below, as well as taking a closer look at the city featured in this installment and other related details.

What city and state is GTA 6 set in?

GTA 6 mainly takes place in Vice City, a location that longtime fans of the series will know very well. Once again, it will serve as the game’s main hub, although this time we’ll get to explore it in a modern-day setting inspired by the present day.

In the GTA universe, Vice City is a fictional version of the real-world city of Miami in the United States. As we’ve already seen in the trailers, it features art deco skyscrapers, a vibrant nightlife, a busy port surrounded by bays, streetcars and highways, pastel-colored hotels, and iconic neighborhoods such as Ocean Beach, South Beach, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Crosstown, and the Venetian Islands.

The state of Leonida and its key locations

It’s worth remembering that GTA 6’s scale and ambition go far beyond giving us just one playable city. The game is set in the state of Leonida, GTA’s fictional equivalent of Florida. This means that beyond Vice City, there will be several major counties to explore, along with noteworthy locations such as the following:

  • Leonida Keys: Inspired by the Florida Keys, this tropical archipelago is perfect for boating, diving, or simply relaxing on its beaches.
  • Port Gellhorn: Inspired by Panama City, this is a rough-around-the-edges coastal town filled with shady businesses and abandoned attractions.
  • Ambrosia: Inspired by Hendry County, this rural and industrial area features refineries, small towns, and the vast Lake Leonida nearby.
  • Grassrivers: Inspired by the Everglades, this region is filled with untamed swamps and muddy waterways inhabited by alligators, snakes, and all kinds of wildlife.
  • Mount Kalaga: Inspired by northern Florida and Georgia, this enormous National Park features rugged forests, hunting grounds, steep canyons, rivers, and a variety of outdoor activities.

There’s no doubt that GTA 6’s full map promises to offer the widest geographical variety the series has ever seen.

GTA 6 map (Unofficial and based on leaks)

Thanks to the collaborative portal State of Florida, a community project involving GTA fans from around the world, we can show you the following image of GTA 6’s potential full map:

Unofficial recreation of Grand Theft Auto 6's full leaked map

Keep in mind that this map is NOT an official image released by Rockstar Games. It is a fan-made recreation, although one that will probably be fairly close to the finished version. The image above shows the version of the GTA 6 map updated as of June 24, 2026.

The map—which even has an interactive Google Maps-style version on the website mentioned above—is the result of years of research and reconstruction by a community of dozens of contributors. It also has a solid and highly reliable foundation, as much of it is based on the major and controversial leak Rockstar suffered in 2022. During that incident, a huge amount of development material was leaked, including more than 90 videos, images, and screenshots, revealing numerous details that were later confirmed to be genuine.

On top of that, the map has continued to be improved and refined as Rockstar has released more trailers and screenshots, using building coordinates, regions shown in official footage, and other clues. Its accuracy is estimated to be above 80%.

How big is GTA 6’s map compared to GTA 5?

It’s important to make clear that, at least for now, Rockstar hasn’t published any official information about the size of GTA 6’s map, the total number of cities, its exact dimensions, or other similar details. However, we can still venture into the world of speculation and leaks...

Based on leaked coordinates, fan-made recreations, images from the trailers, and, of course, a fair amount of guesswork, the GTA community currently believes that GTA 6’s full map could be between 2 and 2.7 times larger in scale than the entire map of GTA 5. The previous game had featured the largest map in this Rockstar franchise up to that point.

Rumors also suggest that, in addition to Florida, the game may include a smaller second state called Gloriana, inspired by Georgia, which borders Florida to the north. This theory comes from license plates apparently belonging to that area that have been spotted in images shared by Rockstar.

Based on the leaked GTA 6 map, this is what the visual comparison with GTA 5’s map would look like:

Unofficial leak-based comparison of the GTA 6 and GTA 5 maps

For context, let’s remember that GTA 5’s map only covered the city of Los Santos and Blaine County. Its playable land area measured around 50 square kilometers, increasing to approximately 75 km2 when the ocean was included, although there was very little of interest to find out there.

It may be more useful to compare it with Rockstar’s most recent major open-world game, Red Dead Redemption 2, whose overall map is slightly larger than GTA 5’s 75 km2. Admittedly, it has the advantage of being a western rather than a game filled with modern cities. Even so, if we remain cautious and stick to the most realistic estimates, it seems reasonable to believe that GTA 6 will at least match RDR2 in terms of explorable map size.

What we can say with confidence is that Rockstar wants to raise the bar and potentially deliver the most impressive open world ever seen in a video game. In fact, the company has stated that there will be more than 700 accessible interiors throughout the map, including nightclubs, gun stores, clubs, and much more. We also know that this time there will be fully explorable underwater regions where players can search for hidden treasure. In other words, the world’s density is set to increase dramatically across the board.
