Among all the new features and changes introduced in Halo: Campaign Evolved, there's one detail that many players may overlook and never discover: this remake features a new secret ending for the campaign. Want to know how to unlock it or what happens in this additional scene? Below, we'll explain everything in this section of our guide to satisfy your curiosity.
If you want to see the new secret ending included in Halo: Campaign Evolved for yourself, you'll need to complete the entire main campaign on Legendary difficulty. This is the only requirement, as you don't need to find any of the game's collectibles or complete any other objectives.
Bear in mind that the bonus missions are not required to see this secret ending. Only the 10 main missions from the classic campaign count. If you complete them all on Legendary difficulty, this additional secret scene will play after the standard ending once you finish The Maw.
In the secret ending, we see Sergeant Major Johnson relaxing and smoking on a beach when he suddenly notices that the ring is beginning to collapse. A UNSC ship then appears on the beach and Johnson prepares to leave, but not before breaking the fourth wall by looking directly at the camera and saying: "See you in the sequel."
This is clearly a deliberate line from the game's developers, hinting that at some point in the future—if everything goes according to plan—we may also get a Halo 2 remake.
Aside from the secret ending we've explained how to unlock above, Halo: Campaign Evolved only has one other ending: the campaign's standard conclusion. In other words, it's the regular ending you can watch after completing mission 10, The Maw, on any difficulty, and it is almost identical to the ending of the original 2001 game.
The main difference between this standard ending and the one in Halo: Combat Evolved comes after the credits, with a very brief scene showing 343 Guilty Spark flying through space toward a planet. This scene wasn't included in the original game and, in a way, leaves the door open for the franchise's sequels.
All in all, Halo: Campaign Evolved can be said to have two endings: the standard ending and the new secret ending reserved exclusively for Legendary difficulty.
