Use this PlayStation cheat reference for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, with button combinations for GTA San Andreas, GTA Vice City and GTA III on PS5 and PS4.
Version note: This guide is only for the 2021 Definitive Edition collection. It is not a substitute for the original PS2 releases, the PS3 ports or the separate 2015 PS4 version of San Andreas, whose cheat availability can differ.
Verification status (September 2, 2026): The controller matrix was cross-checked against current PlayStation references. It does not claim hands-on reproduction on every PS5 and PS4 build; removed and disputed effects are identified separately below.
Choose your Definitive Edition platform: PS5 and PS4 (this guide) | PC | Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One | Nintendo Switch.
Enter each combination during normal, unpaused gameplay. Press the buttons in order and reasonably quickly. Use the D-pad for Up, Down, Left and Right rather than either analog stick. A confirmation message usually appears when a sequence is accepted.
These are the combinations players search for most often. The categorized lists, with limitations and compatibility notes, follow below.

The documented PlayStation controller codes for GTA Vice City: The Definitive Edition are grouped below.
The main Vice City tables contain 50 broadly corroborated PlayStation combinations. Four additional effects or sequences remain in the compatibility table because current PlayStation references disagree about their support or button mapping. There is no money or infinite-ammo cheat.

Shoot the Moon is not a controller cheat. Equip either of Vice City’s sniper rifles at night and fire at the moon. Each hit cycles through one of eight apparent moon sizes before the sequence repeats. This Easter egg is preserved here because it appeared in the original guide, but it is deliberately separated from the controller-code tables.
The GTA III section separates corroborated PlayStation combinations from disputed legacy listings.
The main GTA III tables contain 20 broadly corroborated PlayStation combinations. The Definitive Edition adds Big Head Mode. Flying Cars, Speed Up Clock and Increased Gore are preserved separately because current references conflict, while Invisible Cars is reported unavailable.

Not every legacy combination has the same status. Rockstar confirmed that some old cheats were removed for technical reasons, but did not release a complete platform-by-platform inventory. The table therefore preserves removed effects, disputed reports, duplicated or mislabelled sequences and keyboard-only claims instead of silently deleting them. None of these entries is included in the corroborated totals.
| Game | Cheat, claim or sequence | Status | Editorial treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| San Andreas | Near-infinite health: Down, X, Right, Left, Right, R1, Right, Down, Up, Triangle | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Keep only as a legacy search answer. Even in classic releases, this was not complete invincibility. |
| San Andreas | Never Hungry: Square, L2, R1, Triangle, Up, Square, L2, Up, X | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Do not present the classic sequence as a current PS5 or PS4 code without a new build test. |
| San Andreas | Adrenaline Mode: X, X, Square, R1, L1, X, Down, Left, X | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Do not present the classic sequence as a current PS5 or PS4 code without a new build test. |
| San Andreas | Invisible Cars: Triangle, L1, Triangle, R2, Square, L1, L1 | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Keep the search answer, but not a claimed working combination. |
| San Andreas | Free Aim in Cars: Up, Up, Square, L2, Right, X, R1, Down, R2, Circle | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Keep the search answer, but not a claimed working combination. |
| San Andreas | Cars Float Away When Hit: Square, R2, Down, Down, Left, Down, Left, Left, L2, X | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Do not list the classic low-gravity sequence as a current code. |
| San Andreas | Always Midnight: Square, L1, R1, Right, X, Up, L1, Left, Left | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Preserve the classic sequence as a legacy search answer, not as a current code. |
| San Andreas | Sunny Weather: R2, X, L1, L1, L2, L2, L2, Triangle | Current-build test required | References disagree between Sunny Weather and an Always Midnight or night-sky effect. |
| San Andreas | Rural/Country Traffic or Recruit Anyone with an AK-47: Triangle, Left, Square, R2, Up, L2, Down, L1, X, L1, L1, L1 | Conflicting assignment | The same sequence is assigned to different effects. Do not present either interpretation as corroborated until it is reproduced on the current build. |
| San Andreas | Ladies Follow CJ: Circle, X, L1, L1, R2, X, X, Circle, Circle | Current-build test required | Widely documented for classic PlayStation releases, but not reproduced consistently in current Definitive Edition references. |
| San Andreas | Ninja/Yakuza Theme: X, X, Down, R2, L2, Circle, R1, Circle, Square | Current-build test required | Preserve the sequence for reference, but do not count it as corroborated without a current-build result. |
| San Andreas | Kinky/Gimp Theme: Square, Right, Square, Square, L2, X, Triangle, X, Triangle | Current-build test required | Preserve the sequence for reference, but do not count it as corroborated without a current-build result. |
| San Andreas | Country Theme: L1, L1, R1, R1, L2, L1, R2, Down, Left, Up | Current-build test required | Do not confuse this theme with the separate disputed Rural Traffic or Recruit AK-47 sequence. |
| San Andreas | Gang Members Everywhere: Left, Right, Right, Right, Left, X, Down, Up, Square, Right | Current-build test required | This is distinct from Gangs Control the Streets, which is already in the main table. |
| San Andreas | Recruit Anyone with Rocket Launchers: R2, R2, R2, X, L2, L1, R2, L1, Down, X | Current-build test required | Preserve as a legacy search result until it is reproduced on the current PS5 or PS4 build. |
| San Andreas | Maximum Stamina claim: Up, X, Triangle, X, Triangle, X, Square, R1, Right | Uncorroborated legacy listing | Some old lists assign this R1-ending sequence to Maximum Stamina, but it is not validated for current PS5 or PS4 builds. Do not confuse it with the similar R2-ending Taxi Nitro and Jump code. |
| San Andreas | Maximum Gambling Skill | No corroborated PlayStation controller code | Do not invent a controller conversion for keyboard-only or unverified claims. |
| San Andreas | Faster Cars | Duplicate or mislabelled claim | The sequence published for it in the old article is already the code for Always Green Traffic Lights; count it only once under the verified effect. |
| San Andreas | Money-only cheat | No PlayStation controller code | Use the combined health, armor and $250,000 combination instead. |
| San Andreas | Tank-mode Cars | Mislabelled effect | The real effect is Vehicle of Death: CJ’s current vehicle becomes highly resistant and destroys most other vehicles on contact. |
| San Andreas | Empty Streets | Overstated effect | The code reduces traffic and removes ordinary pedestrians; it does not literally empty every street. |
| San Andreas | Armed but Peaceful Pedestrians | Mislabelled effect | Use Pedestrians Carry Weapons. It arms pedestrians without itself forcing them to attack CJ. |
| San Andreas | Slow Down the Clock | Mislabelled effect | The corresponding sequence slows the entire game. It is listed correctly as Slow Down Gameplay. |
| Vice City | Media Attention / Chase Stat: Circle, L1, Down, L2, Left, X, R1, L1, Right, X | Current-build test required | The legacy effect displays the Media Attention or Chase Stat HUD when its conditions are met; it does not revive police officers. |
| Vice City | Flying Boats: R2, Circle, Up, L1, Right, R1, Right, Up, Square, Triangle | Current-build test required | The historical effect makes boats take off and fly. Current Definitive Edition references disagree about PlayStation support, so do not call it Boats Jump Higher or Show Media Level. |
| Vice City | Flying Cars: Right, R2, Circle, R1, L2, Down, L1, R1 or Triangle, Circle, Triangle, Up, Left, Down, Down, Down, Down | Current-build test required | Current PlayStation references disagree between the classic sequence and a Definitive Edition-specific alternative. Do not publish either as definitive until it is reproduced on the current build. |
| Vice City | Bikini Girls with Guns: Right, L1, Circle, L2, Left, X, R1, L1, L1, X | Current-build test required | The historical effect replaces Vercetti Gang members with armed women in beachwear; it does not arm every woman. Current sources disagree about Definitive Edition support. |
| Vice City | Invisible cars | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Keep the search answer, but not a claimed working combination. |
| Vice City | Money or infinite ammo | No PlayStation controller code | Neither effect has a built-in PlayStation controller cheat. Re-entering a weapon-set code only adds more ammunition. |
| Vice City | Invincibility, Hunter, Skimmer, body-shape and Pedestrians Enter Tommy’s Car codes | No validated PlayStation controller code | These appear in some PC keyboard lists, but should not be converted into controller buttons. |
| Vice City | Boats Jump Higher | Mislabelled effect | The historical sequence is Flying Boats and remains in QA above. |
| Vice City | Cars Can Jump | Mislabelled effect | The corresponding sequence is Cars Drive on Water, not a jump code. |
| Vice City | Crazy Wheels | Vague legacy name | Use Vehicle Tweaks, Including Wheel Size; the cheat also changes several other handling properties. |
| Vice City | Sunny and Cloudy Weather with the same sequence | Old article error | The corrected table uses Triangle for sunny or lightly cloudy weather and Square for overcast weather. |
| Vice City | Women Carry Weapons | Overstated effect | The historical effect is Bikini Girls with Guns: it replaces Vercetti gang members, not every woman in Vice City. Its sequence is preserved in QA above. |
| GTA III | Invisible Cars: L1, L1, Square, R2, Triangle, L1, Triangle | Reported unavailable in The Definitive Edition | Present in older releases, but should not be presented as a current working code. |
| GTA III | Flying Cars: Right, R2, Circle, R1, L2, Down, L1, R1 | Current-build test required | The historical combination is widely documented, but current sources disagree about whether it works in The Definitive Edition. |
| GTA III | Increased Gore / Limb Detachment: Square, L1, Circle, Down, L1, R1, Triangle, Right, L1, X | Current-build and region test required | Some references report silent activation; others list it as removed. Test the current build and regional settings before classifying it. |
| GTA III | Remove Pedestrian Weapons | No PlayStation controller code | Do not convert the PC keyboard string NOWEAPONSFORALL into controller buttons. |
| GTA III | Speed Up Clock: Circle, Circle, Circle, Square, Square, Square, Square, Square, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle | Current-build test required | Current references disagree: some retain the sequence, while others mark it as removed. Never call this Faster Gameplay. |
| GTA III | Crazy Pedestrians | Mislabelled effect | The sequence in the old article is Pedestrians Carry Weapons; it does not itself start a riot. |
| GTA III | Pedestrians Go Berserk | Duplicated wrong sequence | The old article repeats the legacy Flying Cars combination. It is not a separate pedestrian cheat. |
| GTA III | Faster Gameplay using the long Circle/Square sequence | Mislabelled effect | That sequence is the disputed Speed Up Clock code. The true Faster Gameplay combination is in the main table. |
Reference policy: Combinations were converted from the corrected controller matrix and cross-checked against current PlayStation-focused tables for San Andreas, Vice City and GTA III. Disputed cases remain visible here so a future hands-on build test can promote or retire them without losing the search answer.
Enter the listed buttons during normal gameplay without pausing. Use the D-pad for directions, press the sequence in order and wait for the on-screen confirmation. In these tables, X means the PlayStation Cross (X) button; Square is always written as Square.
Yes. The controller combinations on this page apply to the 2021 Definitive Edition on both PlayStation generations. They should not be assumed to work identically in the original PS2 games, PS3 ports or the separate 2015 PS4 port of San Andreas.
Cheats can disable trophy progress on the affected play session or save. Keep a separate manual save made before entering any code, reload it after experimenting and never overwrite your only clean file.
No. Big Head Mode is a straightforward toggle, but weapon, money, health and spawn codes are one-time actions. Speed effects may stack, and pedestrian or world-state cheats may not reverse safely. Reloading a clean save is the reliable solution.
It is safest not to save over normal progress. Riot, pedestrian, gang and traffic cheats can interfere with missions or persist in ways that are difficult to undo, and Rockstar warns that cheat use can cause scripting errors or corrupt saved games.
Check that you are playing the 2021 Definitive Edition, enter the combination while unpaused, use the D-pad and press each button quickly. Make room for spawned vehicles. If the effect appears only in the compatibility table, it is removed, disputed or still requires a current-build test.
San Andreas gives $250,000 together with health and armor, while GTA III has a separate $250,000 code. Vice City has no built-in money cheat.
Do not assume so. Many classic combinations are shared, but The Definitive Edition removes some effects and adds others. Use the separate original PS2 guide for that release.
