After The Sims (2000) and The Sims 2 (2004) became massive hits, inventing the life simulator genre, its third installment naturally arrived surrounded by huge expectations. Once again, it is a game where we can create our own characters, the Sims, and live their lives from birth to death, participating in and managing their personal relationships, career paths, and all daily activities while taking care of their vital needs and moods.
One of the most important new features in The Sims 3 is its open world. Unlike previous installments, where the focus was restricted to a single house, here we can move freely through the community without loading screens. This allows for a more fluid interaction with other Sims and environments, offering opportunities to explore, visit neighbors, go shopping, and participate in community activities. The customization system is also much more advanced in this installment, allowing us to adjust the appearance of the Sims with a highly detailed character editor that includes settings for body shapes, skin tones, and a wide range of facial features.
Additionally, it introduces a personality traits system, allowing players to select up to five traits from a list, which directly influences their behavior, desires, and how they interact with other Sims. This third installment also improves life progression with a focus on long-term goals and rewards. Each Sim has short- and long-term desires based on their personality traits, profession, and experiences, and fulfilling these desires contributes to a happiness meter that can unlock rewards and life bonuses. The Sims 3 also offers extensive building and customization options for homes, allowing players to design houses in detail with a wide variety of furniture and decor options, while the build mode permits detailed manipulation of architecture and landscaping.
