Learn how to collect Essence and earn all kinds of rewards.
When you first reach the Resting Grounds and inspect the Dreamers Memorial, a short cutscene will play. You will then awaken beside the Seer, who will give you the Dream Nail, a weapon that, among other things, allows you to collect Essence and unlock various rewards by speaking to this mysterious character.
The Dream Nail's most important functions include the following:
- Turning spirits into Essence.
- Activating Whispering Roots.
- Obtaining SOUL from enemies.
- Challenging Warrior Dreams and Dream Bosses.
- Entering the minds of the Dreamers.
- Reading the thoughts of enemies and other characters, as well as the memories contained within corpses and statues.
- After collecting 900 Essence, you can also use the Dreamgate to place a marker that you can teleport back to whenever you want.
- Accessing the White Palace after obtaining the Awoken Dream Nail.
How to get Essence
There are several ways to obtain Essence, and you will need to collect at least 2,400 Essence to unlock every available reward. These are all the ways to obtain it:
- Absorbing spirits with the Dream Nail: 26 Essence in total.
- Collecting Essence from Whispering Roots: 482 Essence in total.
- Defeating Warrior Dreams and Dream Bosses: 2,100 Essence in total (1,100 and 1,000, respectively).
- Defeating the White Defender and Grey Prince Zote: 600 Essence in total, with 300 awarded by each one.
- Additionally, every enemy has a small chance of dropping one Essence when defeated.
Essence rewards
Whenever you accumulate a certain amount of Essence, the Seer will reward your efforts with various gifts. Below is the complete list of rewards and the amount of Essence required to obtain each one.
- Hallownest Seal: 100 Essence
- Unlock the Spirits' Glade: 200 Essence
- Pale Ore: 300 Essence
- Dream Wielder charm: 500 Essence
- Vessel Fragment: 700 Essence
- Dreamgate: 900 Essence
- Arcane Egg: 1,200 Essence
- Mask Shard: 1,500 Essence
- Awoken Dream Nail: 1,800 Essence
- "Ascension" achievement: 2,400 Essence
