Rival Schools and Capcom Vs. SNK 2 revivals teased
Capcom's Itsuno says he's working on bringing both series back
Capcom Vs. SNK 2 director and Rival School creator Hideaki Itsuno has said he has plans to give both franchises another round on current consoles.
In an interview with AnimeNewsNetwork Itsuno was asked about the possibility of a new Rival Schools title, or perhaps a re-release on Xbox Live or PSN.
"I happen to have certain plans to do things like that," he replied. "I don't know if it'll come to fruition, but it's on my agenda for sure."
Itsuno, who also has directed a number of Devil May Cry games and created Dragon's Dogma, took a brief detour to discuss the inception of Rival Schools: "When looking at fighting games, it seemed they were focused on worlds that people were unfamiliar with. But everyone's gone to school. So I felt that people could relate to that."
His teases continued when asked if much-requested crossover title Capcom vs. SNK 2 would show up on current consoles: "Funny you should ask. I'm also planning some things there."
Rival Schools: United By Fate was released for the first PlayStation in 1998, while sequel Project Justice released for the Dreamcast in 2001. Although the series has since faded into obscurity, many of its characters have endured and frequently make cameo appearances in modern Capcom games.
CVS2 pits Capcom's Street Fighter's against a gallery of SNK's finest brawlers and brought together their divergent fighting systems. It is highly regarded in competitive fighting game circles and still does the rounds in tournaments.
At Comic Con Capcom announced that Darkstalkers is set to return on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN in the form of Darkstalkers Resurrection.
